Cap8 or Crazy8?

What a scramble for the top spots in the Cap8. Looks like Wake Forest, Sanderson, and Millbrook are all tired at the top with Leesville still trying to muck it up alittle more! I have no idea how it will play out or ties broken. Most conferences go to finish in the conference tournament but some draw numbers out of a hat. I cannot recall a more balanced league finished. Anyonr know if this could end in a 4 way tie?

I have no idea the scenarios and how this will play out, but agreed it has been fun to see.

There is no way there will be a 4-way tie because Millbrook won't lose a second time. My team, Wake Forest, still has a big match against Leesville next week while Sanderson, who beat Leesville tonight, still has a tough Broughton team. It's been a fun year with the balance. I'm not sure anything will change in the coming years.

Just crazy. I think Leesville losing to Sanderson clears things up quite a bit, but like you said WF must still tangle with a tough Leesville team. Assuming, but not looking past, WF beats Leesville, how is the tie broken in the Cap8? Conference tournament finish?

A consolation prise for the 3rd place team is a wild card imo. Looking at the non auto qualifiers it looks as though for sure the 3rd team will get a WC and possibly the 4th place team. Panther Creek is in the mix too. I do not see any other teams in the east side of the state sneaking in and taking the 2nd WC.

How are the wild card teams determined anyway (winning percentage, strength of schedule, etc)? You mentioned Panther Creek in the mix, I think that they would beat any of the teams in the Cap 8 this year. Hey here is an idea, how about a a Tri 9 Cap 8 challenge like the ACC Big 10 challenge.

Sweep, the WC is determined strictly on winning percntage. with that said there are a few caveots. The team in consideration MUST be the next team in the standings not already Q'ed. For example if Panther creek had a 21-5 record but finished 4th in the conference behind Cary, Holly Springs and Lee Co, Panther Creek would not be eligible unless Lee Co also got in. If Lee County had a 18-15 record and did not get a WC Panther Creek is ineligible.But if say Sanderson and Millbrook are the automatic Q's from the Cap8 and Wake Forest gets the 1st WC, Leesville is eligible for the second WC if their record is good enough. I've saw this happen a few years ago when Cary, Panther creek, Holly Springs and Green Hope went from the Tri9. At least that's the way I remember it.

As far as a conference challenge type meet I think that would be a great idea! I think the GNR and Cap8 has done this the last couple of seasons. Both conferences will have 8 teams next year it could make a great two day 16 team event all 8 wrestle all 8 of the other conference. Could be very cool!

Thanks for the clarification on the WC's. at 18-4 PC is really on the fence as the Cap 8 teams have more duel matches. Regarding the challenge, how do we make this happen?

As the Wake Forest head coach, I have no interest in a Tri-8/Cap-8 tournament. One thing that we try to do as a team is to schedule different teams and different tournaments every year. It gets very monotonous for me and for my wrestlers to wrestle the same teams 4 to 5 times (sometimes more) a year. We wrestled a pretty tough schedule this year and there has to be a balance so your guys are both toughened up and fresh for what really matters: the individual tournaments.

As far as the WF/Leesville match, it's going to be a toss up as we don't match up as well against them as Sanderson did. If we don't bring it, we will get beat.

Coach, while I see your point, I do somewhat disagree with you. If not a event with all 16 teams wrestling each other how about 1 versus 1, 2 versus 2 and so on. I believe this is the type of thing that can create a little buzz that this sport so desperately needs in the triangle.

It does bring up another interesting question about weighing the importance of duels vs individual events

I like what Wake Forest is building over there. I think if you're going to get them, ya better get them this year. They have an outstanding team this year, a nice youth/club program in place and I think they only lose about three starters to graduation from this year's squad.

I'd sure like to see an area team put together a strong group to challenge the Parklands of the state and bring home the state championship. I do not see anything on the horizen in the short term but with hard work and a little luck hopefully it will not be to far off in the future.
