What's up?
High School OT gave us a new MB and its quite as a library.
Looks like the first fall action will be the Super 32 qualifier at Eden Morehead. That's usually a tough tournament and its a week earlier than usual. No tune up tournies before it in NC.
The good news is fron 9/8 on through the end of October there is a tournament somewhere in NC. I was looking at a Florida wrestling events website and they have every weekend booked for tournaments now through early November, sometimes two tournaments and also some Sunday tournaments as well. Must be nice. I wish Wake County could host off season wrestling tournaments.
RE: What's up?
There are off-season tournaments in this area but they are club tournaments. Anyone can go, but you can represent your school or have any of your coaches coach you during the tournament. They are not even supposed to be there but that doesnt stop some coaches (coughParklandcough). Still it would be nice to see more organized off-season wrestling in the area.
RE: What's up?
Yes I am aware of the "dead" periods when the high school coach cannot coach the kids. Its a long off season from the state championships until Nov. 1st. There is a lot of teams working through club coaches and parents just gathering up the boys and taking them to tournaments. Not much goes on in NC from July to early September. I'm a firm believer in off season wrestling. My son's team has over 750 individual matches since the season's end. I know of several teams with more, a lot more! I'd guess a team like Parkland may have upwards of 2000 matches since the end of last season. They are the best because they work harder than any team in the state, period. I saw one stretch where they wrestled their own duals one weekend (fielded two teams, wrestled about 8 matches each for an excess of 200 individual matches), went to NY for another dual team tourney, took a weekend off, went to the duals at Collins Hill Ga, then went to the Malitia Duals. All that was after they had spent all spring going to local NC tournaments in large numbers (20-35 kids every weekend). So, ya think they'll be tough this season? Pretty good chance. IMO, Parkland may field one of their strongest teams ever this season. Not many agree with me, but we shall see. I know what my eyes tell me!
