Glaxo Girls Tourney Lacking
Disappointing. the tournament claims that it features "top recruits considering Duke, NC State, and UNC, plus some of the top teams in the Triangle" ... yet only three of the teams qualify as top local teams (based on N&0 1/3/13 rankings). Where was Millbrook? Southeast? Chapel Hill? Green Hope? These could have been great match-ups that wouldn't otherwise occur during the the regular season - especially a Myers Park v. Millbrook re-match. Green Hope also features NC State recruit Ashley Williams.
And why play all but the final game off-site on the side stage at Cary Academy? There was room for 3 boys brackets, but not for the girls? The girls deserve better.

I agree, We have some of the best girl’s teams in the area and some of them like Southeast didn't get invited. The Glaxo is a loser when it comes to girl’s basketball. Southeast beat East wake twice last year with 95 percent of there top players returning and not get an invite. Come on something smells if you ask me.

Wow, I thought I was the only one who thought about it being a JOKE! You have ONE of the BEST teams in the Triangle right in your backyard, and they dont even get an invite, Yes I'm speaking of S. E. Raleigh HS. And the HighSchoolOT.com Holiday Invitational formally known as the Glaxo couldn't get Millbrook HS to attend and they are the returning Champs! I'm hearing that the tournament is under new management or directors and a lot of Coaches are not fond of him. But I think that speaks volume for the tournament when the returning Champs opt out. As far as the statement the tournament claims that it features "top recruits considering Duke, NC State, and UNC, plus some of the top teams in the Triangle, that's really a joke too, or better yet that may have been geared toward the guys ONLY, however, Josh Newkirk and some of the other male players that participated was there. Some of the TOP girls recruits was playing in the Upward Classic in South Carolina.. I guess we will never know the REAL reason for the decline, but it is dually noted.
Statefan03, is Ashley Williams now a recruit or is she still a walk-on? If she's a recruit now, that's great, just curious.....

I thought the tourney was good, got to see K.Leslie and Dee Dee Rodgers both being recruited by top D1 schools. Also Kayla Ealey also top D1 recruit. Havent heard of anyone on at SE Raleigh maybe they can get invited next year.

balltalker, SE Raleigh may not have any KNOWN D1 recruits to you but they have some very good players that are D-1 recruits, one being Alexus Hicks the point guard. And so much emphasis is always being put on Millbrook, Broughton, Green Hope, etc that SE never gets the recognition that they deserve. SE is currently ranked #1 in their division. And don't get me wrong the young ladies that you spoke of are very talented, however, the ENTIRE starting line up for SE is VERY talented but they are very much unrated and overlooked all the time, even with a winning season they are still much the underdogs.... I'm sure they will get invited next year since the majority of the GBB teams will be loosing most of their players and they are going to need someone to contend with Broughton. Don't sleep on SE Raleigh...

Alexus Hicks is the truth! She has to be one of the best point guards in the state. I have seen Southeast play a few times this year and they go hard! I have not seen a team that plays as hard as they do. Millbrook should be commended for all of their accomplishments. They are a great team. I have seen them play several times this year, but they don't play with the same intensity that Southeast plays with. And to get back to what this thread was originally about, this past girls Holiday tournament had a few entertaining games, but it definitely left out a few local teams that should have been included. It seems as if the girls tournament was more of an afterthought rather than a priority. I really think that someone should work on a REAL girls Christmas tournament, that showcases the best teams in the state. We have too many talented programs that deserve to be seen on a big stage. Also, I just looked at the last High School OT roundtable. Is it too much to ask for the girls to get the same coverage that the boys get? The girls teams work just as hard as the boys. Can you talk about some other teams, other than Millbrook? Southeast, Green Hope, Broughton and Holly Springs are worthy of some attention (as well as other teams).
