Injuries in Girls basketball
I have noticed around the area that some teams are struggling in terms of winning games. Turns out the majority of these teams have suffered from players being injured. Some short term others long term and season ending. What changes can be made at the high school level to help the kids avoid injury. A wait training program from a qualified trainer. How about some type of conditioning that wasnt just running maybe some strengthening things. Teaching young women how to land to avoid acl tears. I would like to hear some thoughts because in my opinion not enough is being done in terms of prevention.

Women athletes have an unusually high incident of ACL tears. Their knees are structured slightly different than mens. The push for year round sports are also to blame. Women's muscles, tendons and ligaments are not as strong as mens. Rest is crucial.

The high schools don't really care about girls athletes. They need to have strength training in the preseason instead workouts. And needs to continue during the season to build up those areas around the knee. Once they get to college this is constant in their development.

I think Weight Training is certainly a part of it, but there are other factors involved. Plyometric training such a jump training can help to avoid injuries. Stretching can also help. There is nothing policy wise that can be done. the best is educating both athletes and coaches is the best anyone can offer. Sometimes injures just happen and no matter what steps you take, a kid will get injured from time to time.
