A huge first quarter by Wake Forest-Rolesville helped propel the Cougars past Millbrook on Tuesday night, 62-58.
The Cougars scored 26 points in the first quarter, holding Millbrook to just 15, taking an 11-point advantage into the second quarter.
Millbrook came back before halftime though. A 22-11 advantage in the second quarter for the Wildcats tied the game at 37-37 at halftime.
The third quarter proved to be the difference.
In the second half, neither team scored as many points as they did in the first two quarters, but a slim 14-10 third-quarter advantage gave the Cougars a lead to help secure the win.
Jordan Ayscue led the Cougars in scoring with 12 points, but three others were in double figures. Zach Scarboro, Dwight Lancaster and Jamaree Robertson all scored 11 points.
Brandon Goldsmith led Millbrook with 13 points. Chris & Carlee Clemons scored 11 and 10 points respectively.
Millbrook entered the night tied for first place in the conference with Broughton. After a Broughton loss to Wakefield on Tuesday, both teams remain tied for first place, one game ahead of Leesville Road who is in third place.
