UNC recruit Hicks named NC Gatorade Player of the Year

J.F. Webb High School senior Isaiah Hicks has been named the 2013 North Carolina Gatorade Player of the Year in boys basketball.

Hicks, a University of North Carolina recruit, stands at 6-foot-8 and 210-pounds. He helped lead the Warriors to the 3-A state championship earlier this month.

In the state championship game against Statesville, Hicks fouled out in overtime with 34 points, 30 rebounds and seven blocked shots. He earned the Most Valuable Player award in the state title game.

Hicks' 30 rebounds is a state tournament record.

Webb posted a 27-5 record this season, as Hicks averaged 22.9 points, 12.9 rebounds, 5.6 blocks, 1.8 steals and 1.3 assists per game. He is also a McDonald's All-American.

This past summer, Hicks participated in the adidas Nations Global Championships and the NBA Players Association Top 100 Camp.
