Raleigh, N.C. — The University of Tennessee officially entered the sweepstakes for Sanderson junior defensive end Alim McNeill on Wednesday, becoming the 30th football program to offer the standout Spartan a scholarship.
Tennessee is the fourth Southeastern Conference program to offer McNeill, joining Arkansas, Florida and South Carolina.
McNeill also holds offers from Appalachian State, Arkansas, Arkansas State, Boston College, Campbell, UNC Charlotte, Duke, East Carolina, Florida State, Georgia Southern, Georgia State, Louisville, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, NC State, North Carolina, Old Dominion, Penn State, Rutgers, South Carolina, Texas Christian, Tulane, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest and Western Kentucky.
The standout junior told HighSchoolOT.com in January that Virginia Tech was his No. 1 choice, but the rising senior said last month that he no longer has a designated top choice.
McNeill, who also plays linebacker for the Spartans, tallied 82 tackles – 18 for loss – six sacks, two forced fumbles and one interception last season.
He also appeared on the offensive side of the ball in 12 games last season. McNeill tallied 15 carries for 69 rushing yards and six touchdowns, and he also recorded four catches for 24 yards and one score.
