Hillsborough, N.C. — Orange ended the season Friday for South Johnston in the Class 3-A NCHSAA football playoffs with a 56-13 victory.
Orange (10-2) will face the top seed in the Mideast pod next week in Eastern Alamance.
The Panthers scored first on defense when Patrick Pettiford snagged an interception from five yards out and turned it into a quick six. After the PAT, Orange was up 7-0.
Orange was up 28-7 in the third quarter when South Johnston closed the gap. Quinton Williams, from three yards out, scores a touchdown for the Trojans, who trailed 28-13.
Orange did not let up. From the South Johnston five, Michael Bolden pushed in for the Panthers TD and 35-13 lead.
Later in the third, Orange QB Shawn Motley hooked up with Pettiford from his own 48. Pettiford made the rest happen, and the Panthers have the 42-13 lead.
At the end of the third quarter, Bolden scored again on a 14-yard run up the middle to make it 48-13.
South Johnston ends the season 8-4.
