2014 Softball Chat

2014 Softball Chat

Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know, the 2013 softball season is not over and we are starting a 2014 post. I don't know about you, but I'm already thinking about next season and what the team is going to look like. It looks like in the Tri-9, Fuquay, Middle Creek, and Apex will still be the teams to beat. Fuquay is losing SS, 2B, and #1 pitcher. Middle Creek is losing 4 seniors, Apex is losing RF and LF.
What's the scoop on your team?

RE: 2014 Softball Chat

Holly Springs is only losing one player so hopefully they should be stronger next year.

RE: 2014 Softball Chat

One thing is for sure along with death and taxes: Apex will not lose to Holly Springs.

RE: 2014 Softball Chat

Hmm, I do recall Apex nearly being downed by the young and rebuilding Holly Springs team, Apex saved by some last inning batting heroics (or poor HS fielding). Betting over the 2014 and definitely 2015 season Apex will find themselves wearing the "L" against Holly Springs.

RE: 2014 Softball Chat

It's good to see some softball chat starting up. I know many teams have been having winter workouts. Any teams reloading with young talent ?

RE: 2014 Softball Chat

Clayton looks to be very strong offensively and defensively, but is lacking a proven pitcher so they may have to rely on scoring a lot of runs in order to stay in big games.....

RE: 2014 Softball Chat

S.J. in the new 3A two Rivers confer. is only losing two girls and should be strong again this year. They have a very strong non-confer schedule to include N.J, Clayton, D.H. Conley, Wilson Bed., Prinston, C.B. Aycock and West Johnston, Good luck Lady Trojans..

RE: 2014 Softball Chat

This is copied from tarheelfan41 on the topic of title 9. I thought it would be great to have all softball and baseball fans to view in. You can express your opinion on this post or the Title 9 post.

A touchy subject for sure. I too am 100% for equal opportunity and access. I know Wake County tries and strives for equality. I know when the baseball team at one school wanted to build dugouts (why were they not built when the fields were constructed is beyond me) through donations and volunteers they were not allowed unless they also built softball field dugouts. Softball did not raise the money or get a donation to have it done yet the school/wake county said no, not until you can build softball dugouts too. It worked both fields got them. Title 9 worked.

Now to address the difference in the condition of the playing fields. If it is due to the baseball coaches hard work the baseball fields are in better shape we still have a problem. It is the school/county's responsibility to hire an equally enthusiastic softball coach willing to do the work needed to have equal condition fields. They were able to find a baseball coach willing to bust his hump to maintain great fields they should also find that same type softball coach. Its their job. Period. Unless you are TRYING to convince the world only baseball coaches are they type to go the extra mile for their team. Let the softball coach know they are expected to maintain the fields to a high level, the coach is required to have the their teams work on the field for a half hour before every game manicuring the field, a half our after every practice and every game working the field to perfection. It is a rich tradition in baseball the PLAYERS take care field and they take a great deal of pride in doing so. Same should be expected of softball. Softball should have equal access to all the supplies need to carry out their tasks. Its up to the school to require the softball coaches to carry it out. If the baseball fields have

RE: 2014 Softball Chat

The first Apex win over Holly Springs was a 19-0 game. The closer game later in the season was the result of some "interesting(???)" pitch calling by the now replaced Holly Springs coach. In the end, the better team won both games. Apex returns reigning conference player of the year, several other All Conference selections, and college signees, and strong underclass players. Middle Creek and Fuquay will be strong as usual. Green Hope will be better if everyone returns as expected. Panther Creek, Athens Drive and Cary all have unique players who can deliver an upset on occasion. Should be a fun year. Top 4 will be Apex, Middle Creek, Fuquay and Green Hope with the other 4 teams battling for position.

RE: 2014 Softball Chat

RG sounds like SJ does have a tough schedule. I guess a bright spot is NJ, Clayton, and Aycock are down but conley, Beddingfield and Princeton are loaded especially Princeton.

RE: 2014 Softball Chat

Yea Jumbo glad they are non conference, my daughter plays travel ball with some of the Princeton and N.J. girls and both teams have a lot of talent. Not sure about N.J. pitching this year but Princeton has about five and they all are pretty good. Conley has R. McCullen who is very strong and West Johnston has M. Mills who is equally as strong, South could get a bloody noise out of the gate if they come slacking, Ground and Pound lets get it on.
