70,000 views - softball getting a lot of attention.
jonhiras Dec 18, 2013
Tri - 9 really did great this year. Wonder what hitting drills they went through to get those numbers.
Canon Shooter Jun 3, 2013
South Granville had a great season and I agree that they had a team that should of won the state but sometime the breaks just don't come your way. Softball is alive in the Triangle however I believe that softball is on it's death bed in Durham. No competitive community recreation programs to speak of and club and travel teams from Durham are now forced to search for players from surrounding counties. No wonder the PAC 6 did terrible in the playoffs. I have to say the future prospects of high school teams in Durham are very poor.
Great year overall for softball, especially Wake and Granville County.
High and Tight or In Your Ear Jun 3, 2013
What a great year folks, went to the playoff games this week and some games were lost because of jitters and miscues. WFR had a chance but the errors just killed them. Central Alexander is good but without the errors, WFR would have been in both games. The difference was that CA was good from 1-9 in the lineup and WFR was good from 1-6. if you were there, who was that parent screaming in the dugout at the girls between innings. Kick him out
In my opinion, South Granville had a better team than West Stanley. Once again, a couple of errors were costly.
We had almost 24,000 views on this post this year - thanks to everybody for participating, softball is very much alive in the Triangle.
See you next year,
High and Tight or In Your Ear May 29, 2013

Big win Friday night for South Granville Lady Vikings, they beat South Lenoir to advance to the State Championship series at Walnut Creek. Great team! Hopefully they will get a little coverage now.
Canon Shooter May 22, 2013
I know South Granville doesn't get the respect it once had but their softball team is top notch, Coach Jack Day has an extremely talented group that could beat any team in the area. Last nights win over Wilson Beddingfield is a perfect example, congratulations on the 6-4 win over the team that put North Johnston out of the playoffs. They play S. Lenoir for the eastern finals Thursday night at South Granville.
High and Tight or In Your Ear May 18, 2013
N&O's top five out in softball. North Johnson gets beat 3-2 to Beddingfield. That is a shocker, I made a statement earlier in the season that North Johnson was the beast team in the state at any level. it just goes to show, you need to put hits together to win. NJ outhit Beddingfield 8-4. I just heard that the strike zone was a little different for NJ and the umpire was from the Beddingfield area. That info came from a BF parent.
Apex losses to WFR 3-0. WFR scored all 3 runs in the first on 2 Huge errors by the LF. Apex had runners in scoring position 5 times but could not produce anything.
Garner, Orange, and Fuquay-Varina are all out.
I was at the Middle Creek - FV game and MC scored all 8 runs in the 2nd. MC pitcher blew up in the 4th but FV left the bases loaded with 1 out.
I will be very surprised if MC beats WFR.
lbeck37439 May 16, 2013
Over the last few years the East Wake program is the most improved around.
virginiagirlt May 16, 2013
Thanks lbeck for the support for East Wake. No one gives East Wake any credit. It was a great win for East Wake. They played well on offense and defense.
teleman91112 May 15, 2013
I consider it the biggest upset so far......both teams are great, but I thought Garner had the momentum
lbeck37439 May 15, 2013
big upset east had beat them already
teleman9111 May 15, 2013
Big upset is East Wake taking out Garner, Clayton over Ashley to advance will play Rival West Johnston Friday which should be an Amazing Game....
High and Tight or In Your Ear May 14, 2013
From 64 to 32 teams, after tonight -16, it happens so quick. I think you will see a couple of upsets tonight.
Keep everyone posted.
lbeck37439 May 8, 2013
Brackets are out
dfmlythr May 8, 2013
Deadline is today for reporting scores ect. Who is in who is out?
teleman91112 May 6, 2013
Big game tonight if it doesn't rain out, East Wake at West Johnston.....
teleman9111 May 4, 2013
You are absolutely right, you look at the GNC right now and the top 3 schools Garner, Clayton, and West Johnston are great and should all go far in the playoffs, yet there was little to no coverage in Clayton Friday for the huge Clayton-West matchup that had huge implications on seeding.....for the record Garner Girls were there, and showed great sportsmanship.
High and Tight or In Your Ear May 3, 2013
First of all - kudos to adgreen - you are 100% correct. What is frustrating is that you will have some BIG match up games that will get NO coverage at all. The coverage, if there is any, will be at a game that has no importance at all or lackluster at best A great example is last night - Middle Creek is playing Apex for the the Tri-9 championship and the media was almost non existent. Anyway, enough of the rant, thanks adgreen.
Oh, by the way, Apex won 11-6. The pitcher for Middle Creek beaned 4 batters and walked a bunch.
Remember - A walk or a HBP is as good as as hit.
adgreen May 3, 2013
This is my first year following high school softball. The coverage this sport gets (or should I say the lack of coverage) is rediculous!!! Those girls practice and play hard and deserve better. This is very frustrating!!!
teleman91112 May 1, 2013
Clayton over Smithfield Selma 20-0 last night, but I would like to say what a good job the Coaching staff at SSS is doing with that group of young ladies, they were upbeat and truly gave there all, not easy for a team that hasn't won a game and has given up 200+ runs this season. So kudos to those girls.
ntheweeds Apr 29, 2013
Parents running the program at Cleveland, that's a bad sign
teleman9111 Apr 27, 2013
Clayton over East Wake 2-0 last night was an awesome game, Clayton's defense behind Pitcher Nicole Bond was Steller, Sports Center highlights by 3b Murphy, 2b North, and LF Blanchard East Wake's Miller Sister Battery was exceptional as always, fun game to watch.....
gt_football Apr 26, 2013
Wat a game oin G-town last night. Lady Trojans pull out a hard fought win vs. West Johnston 4-3 in 10 innings.
jocofootball Apr 25, 2013
Red from sitting in bleachers, it was not coaches. Looked like pitchers dad and boyfriend relaying to catcher. HC lost this team by babying freshman, most teams get better, they have gotten worse.
High and Tight or In Your Ear Apr 24, 2013
Some teams are peaking and some teams are a little flat. Green Hope beats Apex and almost beats Middle Creek. Middle Creek falls in the flat bucket. Green hope falls in the peaking bucket. Apex squeaks by Fuquay Varina 4-3, scoring all 4 runs in the 7th. Apex beat Fuquay 19-0 in there first outing. Apex falls in the flat bucket. Both Apex and Middle Creek have 1 loss and meet next Thursday at MC.
The new N&O poll is out.
1. North Johnston (2) 17-0
2. Apex (1) 16-1
3. Middle Creek (3) 12-3
4. Orange (8) 12-1 5. Fuquay-Varina (6) 11-3 6. Garner (4) 11-2 7. Wake-Forest-Rolesville (5) 10-3 8. East Wake (11) 11-2 9. South Granville (9) 12-1 10. West Johnston (10) 7-2 11. Tough loss last night for the Cleveland Rams
High and Tight or In Your Ear Apr 17, 2013
Major upset yesterday in the Tri-9
Apex got beat by Green Hope 2-1. R U KIDDING ME.
That makes The Tri - 9 wide open. Both Apex and middle Creek have 1 loss - Fuquay has 3. Yo daddy, we have a ballgame.
Middle Creek almost stubbed their toe the night before, beating Lee County 6-5 - scoring 2 runs in the last inning.
Fasten your seat belts.
teleman9111 Apr 17, 2013
Clayton over Garner 1-0 last night, what a game!!!
gt_football Apr 12, 2013
Holly Springs 1
High and Tight or In Your Ear Apr 11, 2013
It looks like we have some teams playing better in the 2nd half in the Tri-9. Holly Springs and Athens being 2 of them. Huge game tonight with Middle Creek playing Fuquay Varina at 6:30.
Shout out to Brittaney Dahle of Wake Forest - Rolesville for striking out 21 in 8 innings in a 2-1 win over Millbrook.
adgreen Apr 10, 2013
Holly Springs varsity beat Panther Creek yesterday 17-2. Go Lady Hawks!!!!!
Holly Springs takes on Garner tomorrow.
teleman9111 Apr 10, 2013
West Johnston 1 Clayton 0 10 innings, great game from start to finish....
teleman9111 Apr 8, 2013
One Big matchup this week in the GNC Clayton at West Johnston Tuesday, then Clayton has Knightdale on Friday, while West Johnston gets East Wake on Friday (very good game also), Garner should have an easy week playing SE Raleigh, Holly Springs, and Harnett Central.

teleman9111 Apr 3, 2013
From the games I have seen this season with Clayton, Garner is the best team in the GNC, Cleveland was surprisingly strong, and Corinth is probably the biggest dissapointment. I think 3 or 4 teams have legitimate shots at a state title, but it will depend on who gets and stays hot down the stretch.
High and Tight or In Your Ear Apr 2, 2013
Midway through the year. We need to get a little conversation going so lets stir the pot a tad.
Who's the best team out there?
What's the biggest surprise so far?
Which team has been the biggest disappointment?
What teams have a legitimate chance of winning the State Championship in our area?
Give me your thoughts.

High and Tight or In Your Ear Mar 29, 2013
Well, last night was a little different.
The big Middle Creek / Fuquay Varina game..........Hmmm, it didn't happen because they wanted to start their spring break early. Umbrella in your drink kinda thing.
Green Hope won the 1st annual Falcon Cup by thumping Carrboro 22-0. Congratulations but ,next time can you find a little tougher competition than a Carolina 11 1A/2A team. I guess what I'm saying is, pick on someone your own size.
In other scores:
Athens beat Panther Creek 9-2. Mike Blake reported on that game. You know it's a tough night in softball if Mike decides to go see that game. Thank goodness he has a press pass and dose not have to pay.
St. David's shut out Raleigh Charter 10-0
Apex pulled out the old merry-go-round out against Lee County 16-6
Thats all I have, I should be fired.
High and Tight or In Your Ear Mar 28, 2013
Tonight should be the last night before spring break. I know of one really big game in the Tri-9. Middle Creek travels to Fuquay Varina. Fuquay need a win big to have a chance of winning the conference title. They have 2 losses already and beating Middle creek would put them in a tie for second.
The new N&O poll came out today with very few changes. Heritage slipped into the #15 slot.
North Johnson is rated #7 and they are ranked to low. Some say they have the best team in the state, at any level.
teleman9111 Mar 27, 2013
Clayton over East Wake last night 1-0 was the game of the year so far, as predicted a pitchers duel with Nicole Bond for Clayton throwing her 2nd no hitter in a row and Lauren Miller giving up just 3 hits.
ntheweeds Mar 27, 2013
Cleveland has another crushing defeat last night falling to Princeton 6-2.. Princeton played a great game so got to tip your hat to them.
Parents got to stop coaching the team.
High and Tight or In Your Ear Mar 26, 2013
I just read post off of "This board rocks.com from ahogbackr. I found it interesting enough to forward.
Part Time vs. Full Time
Every year I am always surprised at the attitudes of school ball coaches towards travel ball practices and team functions.
They are glad to have travel ball players, which they are concerned with 3 month's out of the year - while a travel ball coach is concerned with their player 12 out of the 12 months of the year.
I am all about supporting the players school but it is not always the case in return - I have heard recently about a School ball coach saying that if his players attended a travel ball practice they would be suspended one game. If hurt - suspended five . This of course makes no sense to me - they depend on these programs the other nine months to develop the players they are using for 3 month's - once the season is over - you are history till next season.
To me this put's the girls in a rock and hard place - Hypothetical question - What if travel coaches said - No school ball .
Like I said I am all about supporting your school but find can't fathom these coaches drawing a line in the sand like that.
What advantages are there to putting your "part time" job before your full time job - How much do these coaches work with schools to get their girls seen?
How many times does the HS softball coach talk to the player outside of the school season? How many college coaches are attending your "normal" games? They certainly enjoy the effort, attitude, and play when they are playing for them. In one year a travel ball coach will put in the time that a HS coach puts in, in four - just saying.
lbeck37439 Mar 26, 2013
Garner 8 West 4
High and Tight or In Your Ear Mar 26, 2013
Love the chatter about title 9 and the softball fields. The bottom line is that baseball will ALWAYS get more attention. From the turf to the scoreboard, to the dugouts, to the dirt, to the field conditions. If you want your high school softball organization to be top notch, the bottom line is that you have to roll up your sleeves and be vocal and plan on doing a lot of grunt work yourself. We all love this game. - be a active participant, no matter how unfair it is.
On another note - Apex beat Middle Creek tonight 1-0. Middle Creek pitcher was pitching a perfect game thru 5 2/3. A beat out single and a overthrow by the shortstop was the difference in the game. Apex pitcher faced the minimum of 21 batters with the help from 3 double plays from the defense. Great game to watch - both teams deserve a lot of credit.
virginiagirlt Mar 26, 2013
Harnett Central crushes East Wake 11-1
This was the other way around East Wake beat Harnett Central 7-1
ntheweeds Mar 26, 2013
Cleveland got whooped by South on Friday...what is going on with them. Playing people that can't catch or hit while putting one of the more talented people on the bench. I won't mention any names but seriously play the girl who can hit and field most any position
redflamebball Mar 26, 2013
wrong wrong the county allows the baseball fields to be better than the softball one's that is the whole point...there is no need to argue with you though..I will just file the complaint with the OCR
lbeck37439 Mar 26, 2013
so he dont know who taking care of the fields, and thats his job. The county does the same for softball as they do for the baseball fields.
