Rocky Mount's Alston dies

Rocky Mount High School lost one of its biggest supporters on Monday.

Charles Alston, a 1976 Rocky Mount graduate, was found dead in his home on Monday. The cause of death has not been determined. He was 54.

Alston was an avid supporter of high school athletics and the Rocky Mount Gryphons, almost never missing an event that involved the school. Alston covered events like the N.C. Coaches Association East-West All-Star Games, the HighSchoolOT.com Holiday Invitational, and N.C. High School Athletic Association state championships in many sports.

A graduate of N.C. Wesleyan College and a resident of Rocky Mount, Alston was responsible for maintaining the North Carolina iHigh website. He also ran a blog specifically about Rocky Mount High School.

Funeral arrangements have not been announced.
