Garner v Goldsboro HighSchoolOT Holiday Invitational

FINAL: Garner 71 Goldsboro 42: Garner came out of the gates on a 9-0 run and never looked back, cruising to an easy 71-42 win over Goldsboro. Goldsboro never got closer than 7 points the rest of the way, as Garner's pressure defense and efficient transition game was too much for the 1-A Cougars.

Demarcus Sanford led the Trojans with 13 points while Julius Barnes had 12. Lonzia Tyson was the only player in double figures for the Cougars, as he finished with 13.

Garner now awaits the winner of Leesville Road and Greensboro Dudley. That game will be played on Thursday at 2:20PM. Goldsboro will face the loser of Leesville-Dudley at 12:40PM on Thursday.

END 3Q: Garner 65 Goldsboro 29: Garner has shown no signs of letting down as they outscored Goldsboro 18-8 in the 3rd quarter. There is not much drama left in this one, as I imagine Garner and Goldsboro will both sit their starters for the rest of the game.

HALFTIME: Garner 47 Goldsboro 21: The 2nd quarter was more of the same, as Garner has distanced themselves from the Goldsboro Cougars. High pressure defense and a flawless transition game have helped the Trojans dominate Goldsboro thus far. To this point Goldsboro has found no answer in slowing down Garner. A 9-2 run late in the quarter has helped put this one away early.

Goldsboro struggled mightily on the offensive end, not scoring 1 three point basket and finishing up a cold 33% shooting from the field overall.

Garner sophomore Julius Barnes leads all scorers with 10 points.

END 1Q: Garner 24 Goldsboro 11: Garner raced out to an early 9-0 lead and never looked back as they built a lead into into the end of the quarter. Goldsboro was no match early as the Trojans forced the Cougars into 3 straight turnovers to begin the game.

Pregame: Game 1 of the HighSchoolOT.com Holiday Invitational will feature the Garner Trojans and Goldsboro Cougars. These two teams are part of the Boys 4-Team Bracket (which also includes Leesville and Greensboro Dudley).

Garner enters this year's tournament, as the defending champion after winning the 8-team HSOT.com Tournament last year. Garner, still led by Coach Eddie Gray in his 23rd season, lost 9 seniors from their 2011-12 team. This year the Trojans are paced by super sophomore Julius Barnes.

The Goldsboro Cougars make their return to the HighSchoolOT.com Holiday Invitational for the first time since 2006. They are led by first-year Head Coach Russell Stephens. The Cougars are paced by a pair of post players, Damian Henderson and 6-8 junior Lonzia Tyson.

The winner of this game will go on to face the winner of Leesville Road and Greensboro Dudley in the winner's bracket.
