Cary, N.C. — Green Hope head coach David Green’s debut didn’t go as planned Friday night as the Falcons fell to Southern Nash, 38-28, Friday night in the team’s home opener.
North Carolina commit Jordyn Adams also made his first appearance for Green Hope after transferring from Blythwood, but his night started on a sour note, fumbling the opening kickoff that resulted in a Southern Nash touchdown moments later.
Adams did have two second-half touchdown grabs, but it was too little too late for the five-star recruit and the Falcons.
Southern Nash running back Zonovan Knight paced the Firbirds on Friday, taking two handoffs to the house. Knight’s latter score was a 65-yard scamper to pay dirt on the first play of the second half to extend Southern Nash’s lead to 28-0.
Green Hope finally got on the board with 11.8 seconds left in the third quarter after a defender fell on a ball in the endzone that was snapped over the head of Southern Nash’s punter.
Southern Nash also added two points after a Green Hope safety with 5:48 to play in regulation.
The Falcons’ only two offensive scores – both 40-yards touchdown passes from Willie Taylor to Adams –came within the final 4:39 of play.
Green Hope returns to action next Friday at home against Apex, and Southern Nash is slated to welcome Nash Central at 7 p.m.
