Northwood baseball advances with no-hitter

— Northwood pitcher Davis Palermo threw a no-hitter on Tuesday night, advancing the Chargers past Eastern Alamance and into the fourth round of the 3-A baseball state playoffs.

Palermo, a junior, struck out 13 batters in the complete game no-hitter, leading Northwood to a 1-0 victory.

The game was scoreless in the bottom of the third inning, but Northwood was threatening with Max Hundley on second base. That's when a double to the left wall by Bryce Davis broughton Hundley home, giving Northwood the only run of the game.

Northwood is now 22-4 overall and will advance to the fourth round of the state playoffs where it will face Northern Guilford at 7 p.m. on Friday in Greensboro.
