NCHSAA basketball teams battle to 8 overtimes

Posted January 23, 2013

It was not the longest game in North Carolina High School Athletic Association history, but it was still pretty amazing.

St. Stephens and Watauga battled through eight (that's right, eight) overtimes on Tuesday night in a men's basketball game, according to various media reports including the Asheville Citizen-Times and others.

The Northwestern Conference battle was finally won by St. Stephens by a score of 103-98.

Eight players from both teams scored in double figures led by Karigan Farley of St. Stephens who pumped in 37 points.

The NCHSAA record is also the National Federation record for overtimes in a single game. Boone Trail beat Angier 56-54 on February 29, 1964, in Carter Gym on the campus of Campbell College in a 13-overtime marathon.
