Herring, Millbrook run away from Knightdale, 30-7

— Reid Herring had a pair of first-half touchdown passes Friday night, helping Millbrook to a big lead in a 30-7 win over Knightdale.

Midway through the first quarter, Herring hooked up with Marcus Marshall on a 48-yard screen pass to give the Wildcats a 7-0 lead.  Football: Knightdale vs. Millbrook Football: Knightdale vs. Millbrook (Aug. 29, 2014)

As the first quarter came to a close, Herring tallied his second of the night as he connected with Trey Threatt on a 21-yard score to make it 14-0.

After a 34-yard field goal by Nick Viola made it 17-0, Millbrook (2-0,0-0, CAP-8) got a special teams touchdown as Raul Oquendo reversed field on a 75-yard punt return for a score.

Millbrook kept it rolling on their opening drive of the second half as Herring recorded his third passing touchdown of the night -- a strike to Anthony Bowman to make things 30-0.

Knightdale denied the shutout with a touchdown in the final seconds to bring the score to 30-7.

Millbrook will play at East Wake next week. Knightdale (1-1,0-0, Greater Neuse) will travel to Heritage Sept. 05.
