RE: pac 6 Basketball
@roscoobass30 you are correct 1st half of the game was bad. Couldn't get in to see that part, hear it over the radio while waiting to get in the gym. Traveled from out of town was turned away and had to wait at the door. Hillside sold out of ticket. PO clearing the people out. WOW felt sorry for traveling parents, fans, grandparents and friends.
I feel that the team should have played better; But to blame it on Tyrone, who still ended up with 26 pts, which was more than any other team player, I can't digest that theory. However, you can have you opinion this is what make the forum interesting. But, you have a point. What I did see with that 3.4 second play in the last quarter, after getting in the gym bottom of 2nd quarter. I still say the refs didn't make the obvious calls. Did you see the crowd? Man they were screaming! Hey, it's part of the game. If a foul was called on Outlaw (OPINION) I think he could have made two points to tie the game and a possible on the buzzer by Stephens. Who knows good comeback for the 2nd half.LOL!
PLAYOFFS ARE HERE!! Looking at the brackets I think Hillside and Person will meet again!! But, the games has to be played first. We'll talk then. Let's have Fun. ENJOY YOUR EXPERIENCE. PEACE, HAPPINESS, & SOUL . Don Cornelius. LOL!! Am proud of all of the PAC-6 participants.
RE: pac 6 Basketball
@cbumphus2003 I didn't blame the lost on Outlaw! I said felt he didn't play aggressive enough in the first half. I think Tyrone could've score 36 points if he wanted to. I think the reason for that was b/c he was trying to stay out of foul trouble. Hillside has always been a terrible place to play/coach as an opposing team, their fans are very loyal but disrespectful. I think the crowd could have had an affect on the way the game were called. I know Outlaw would have tied that game up if given the chance but like I stated earlier can't leave it in the hands of the refs!
RE: pac 6 Basketball
To all those that seem to think HHS cheated or somehow got the better deal with calls. I beg the differ and feel as though no matter where HHS travels they not only have to play opposing team but fight the refs/calls also. Having traveled to Person the calls were just as bad and know for sure one of refs was also from that area. So it can happen anywhere but shouldn't be a reflection on kids. Not to mention their fans aren't the most pleasant either, we can all find excuses to why our favorite team didn't win but at the end of day there is a winner and a loser. I try to remember this is high school and about the kids. Happy to say I'm a HHS fan however no problem in saying all PAC-6 teams played hard this season, there were some good, exciting close games. Good luck to those in state playoffs!
RE: pac 6 Basketball
@ cbumphass. All valid points well taken.
You said DPS should have had the game at a neutral site. Although I agree it would be more beneficial to all teams involved if the tournament was held at a neutral site, DPS isn't the governing body for the conference. Two of the schools aren't in the DPS system. Like I mentioned before it would be too expensive. The tournament has been held at DSA before, the last time was in 07 and maybe 08. Parking was terrible and it cost the conference. The conference has to pay DPS a hourly fee because DSA isn't a member of the PAC 6. When the PAC 6 uses schools outside of the conference they have to cover insurance as well. As long as the schools involved are in the conference the principal has the right to waive the fee and doesn't have to worry about liabilities to a certain extent. Plus the PAC 6 schools split the gate.
At one point the conference looked into using NCCU, but that prove to be even more expensive. NCCU wanted $.65 on the dollar for the gate. In addition they wanted campus police along with DPD. DPD already charges $70 per hour for an officer detail. They even wanted to name their own number for officers.
I hate to hear about any fans being turned away. However that is a testament to PHS fans. A good testament. They travel! Last year the tournament was at ECHS and they were in the finals with JHS. There were plenty of seats! Next year it moves back to NHS and who knows.
The ref situation? We could sit here and argue all day about young energy verses experienced wisdom. I don't think energy was a factor. None of the refs officaled more than one game for the tourney. Each night for each game there was a new set of refs. They should have been fresh. I don't care how old, young, or whatever they are as long as they are impartial.
System will never be perfect but it works. Btw, why all the capital letters? You yelling at us? Lol!!
I'm a teacher too! Hope you enjoyed your two hour delay. Ttyl.
RE: pac 6 Basketball
@Childplease. Thanks for sharing that information. We are on the same level with that. Hopefully, with time maybe those flaws can be better addressed. How is the Brackets looking for our state participants. Person beat Northern by a point. GREAT GAME! Russell and team has done a good job this year. How about Hillside did they win!! I hope soo. What about Jordan..I think I heard they lost. We need as many teams in quarter, semi and finals as possible!!!! Not yelling. Showing excitement and emphasis on words.. LOL! Funny
RE: pac 6 Basketball
Back when I played I remember playing at a neutral site, even though I didn't play in the Pac 6. Playing in a neutral setting is still important, and the location should be able to accommodate a large crowd. I heard the Person/Northern game was a very good one, couldn't make it. I visit more games other than Pac 6 games and hated that I missed them. I did get a chance to see Green Hope play which will be Person's next opponent. They are a very good team but Person should be able to pull out a victory.
RE: pac 6 Basketball
@Roscobass30 I don't know much about Green Hope but I hope you are right and this is an easy win for Person. But we can't take anything for granted. YES!! You missed a good game. Maybe You will get to see the game on Wednesday. Have you heard anything about the other locals. Jordan or Hillside? I think Jordan lost Hillside IDK. Game was called fairly a couple of boos to the refs on both ends but overall good calls. No game will be 100% perfect but logical. You might be right Roscobass30 about the possible win.
Green Hope: Overall:12-12-0 League:8-8-0 National Rank:4964 State (NC) Rank:139 26 games 12 losses. .500
RE: pac 6 Basketball
Hillside won, from what I've heard. Green Hope plays good defense, but I think Person will pull this one out. I'm also looking for Hillside women to go far in the tournament, they are very solid team.
RE: pac 6 Basketball
Green Hope is 22-5 overall. 12-4 in conference play. The are ranked 21st in NC. They are a very good basketball team. The two common opponents for the Rockets and the Falcons (Green Hope) is East Chapel Hill and the team GH played last nite SE Guilford. The Falcons defeated E. Ch Hill 64-42. I believe that if all I have studied about this team is true it will not be easy and the Rockets must play their best basketball. We should be diligent in our fact findings before we post.
RE: pac 6 Basketball
@roscoebass...i'm just curious if you've ever been involved in coaching at any level? You are mighty hard on Coach Dacus from Person for a man that has led a team to a 21-5 overall record so far and finished 10-2 in the conference and won a state playoff game last night. From what I hear that is the first time PHS has seen double digit conference wins granted the number of teams in the conference has varied over the years but wow that's a great accomplishment. I know it's a whole lot easier for us fans to coach from the stands and keep that undefeated record intact without the constant pressure and decisions that have to made throughout a game and year. Nobody is going to agree with everything any coach does but from what I see and have heard Coach Dacus is a heck of a coach and has playing and coaching experience at the college level and many years at high school level..He has forgotten more basketball than most of us fans will ever know..Coach Dacus has done a wonderful job and I have to give respect where respect is due! Go Rockets and use negativity for motivation going forward for players and coaches!
