Wake County Conferences
Wake County Conferences
NcPreps.com basketball poll, only school from wake county is Garner, do we look too much into our conferences and assume that their ultra competetive when we really only play each other?
RE: Wake County Conferences
Yeah, i really want to see teams like Garner, Broughton and Apex and other good wake teams go play out of state teams. Is it expensive, yes. But Hillside football plays out of state teams and its 50+ players. Im sure it is extremelty difficult to schedule teams in Charlotte and out of state teams. I think wake county teams should start going out of state for at least 1 out of 24 games a season. Its great experience for players.

HSFootball, why? We are talking about high school athletics, correct? Why in the world would it be necessary for a public school team to spend tax payer dollars to travel to an out of state game???? This is not D1 college basketball - let the kids play, the same way they have for 100 years!
RE: Wake County Conferences
patriot dude, for exposure, like I said, it would be extremely difficult but that is one reason why we do not have top ranked teams. yes let the kids play, but it would be good experience.
RE: Wake County Conferences
Understand what you're saying, just think it's not a realistic goal for HS athletics to provide "exposure" for student-athletes, not when most teams can barely provide uniforms and equipment. Besides, rankings mean nothing. The only exposure that matters occurs in the state playoffs, which is the way it should be.
RE: Wake County Conferences
not many public schools travel out of state. Some teams travel to SC and VA but most are not over night trips. If Hillside didnt have a few good years in football they wouldnt have the money to travel out of the state to play. If you can play or youre a top notch team they will find you, and give you all the ink you need, I know that if youre playing a the top notch level in the country ESPN will have someone there to watch you.
RE: Wake County Conferences
There are plenty of in state schools we could play to prove our worth, we cant keep playing against each other and yell how great our schools are if were scared to step out of wake county and compete.
RE: Wake County Conferences
That was 1 reason why Millbrook stopped playing in the Glaxco. All but 1 or two teams are from the local area. They went to SC this year i think there were 6 teams from GA, 4 from SC and 1 from VA. and that was just in their bracket! The girls did it to get ranked in the Nation. They were also able to play the number 1 team in GA, Northern Cobb, A 6A School.
money to travel
As far as having the funds to travel, that is what the Booster Club does, I have to admit there are two schools known for their booster club programs. Millbrook and Broughton. I would have to admit the booster club selling concessions and doing raffles helps alot...as long as the funds raised are going towards the sport they are supporting!
RE: Wake County Conferences
i think it would help in playoff succes, often times we get into playoffs and are exposed for not going up against stiffer competition during the regular season, no matter how great we think our conferences are we have to start playing the big dogs in Fayettville, Charlotte and surounding areas in order to be legit.
