West Johnston at Garner
Last night was a good example of how some people do not need to be allowed in a high school gym. I was sitting not far from the Garner bench near where the internet broadcast takes place, and saw a West Johnston fan (I'm assuming a parent)giving it to the officials and the Garner bench all night long. When the game was over he took off on the floor running and yelling at the Garner coach about having "no class" because one of the bench players (looked to me like the reserves were in most of the second half) hit a three near the end of the game with Garner up big. While I agree this isn't optimal, I have a hard time telling a kid who never plays not to play hard. With "fans" like these it is no wonder that students have a warped sense of reality at times. Wonder what it would take to have a person like this banned from attending. It definately isn't what I have normally seen from West Johnston parents and gives the school a bad image.
RE: West Johnston at Garner
Saw this as well - ironic that he had the nerve to accuse anyone else of being "classless", as he exhibited none himself. I also actually witnessed the Garner coach motion for the player NOT to shoot and dribble out the clock. Kid shot the ball after the buzzer - went in but didn't even count. Kid never gets to play. What's a coach supposed to do - tell the players to just fall over or throw the ball away every possession for the final 8-10 minutes? Get over it.
RE: West Johnston at Garner
Wendell 10 are you an East Wake fan or a Garner fan?
RE: West Johnston at Garner
Yeah, that's a bad image for the school.
As far as banning, I say let it slide this time, because everyone has lapses in judgment, but if it happens a second time, forget about it, good bye.
RE: West Johnston at Garner
West has been going through a very tough year, at 2-17, but there's no need for calling a coach classless like that. In all my experiences, he's been very classy. Just my opinion though.
I'm a WJ fan, by the way.
RE: West Johnston at Garner
Sounds like a WJ parent needs a hug & a participation trophy. Coach Gray is a class act, always has been.
RE: West Johnston at Garner
sounds to me like someone at wj needs to take charge during the games. i have seen numerous fans out of control and no one is willing to throw them out. as for gray being a class act i dont think class is the correct word. successful yes. to throw so many temper tantrums and lose control like he does is not showing class. but 400 wins speaks volumes for something.
RE: West Johnston at Garner
^Eddie Gray is a passionate coach. Better that than a ho-hum approach. Agree with ya regarding the 400 Ws.
GO TROJANS!
RE: West Johnston at Garner
I can think of a few words to describe Coach Grey that are quite different than passionate.
His act is old. Glad my children will never have to experience playing for him.
RE: West Johnston at Garner
Agreed, the sideline antics can be a little much sometimes. But what you don't see is the love, rapport, and lifelong relationships he builds with his players. He often tells kids things that they need to hear, but nobody else is willing to tell them, like "no, you are not the greatest", "you need to work harder", and "the team is more important than the individual". Granted, the way he communicates it sometimes is over the top in today's everybody-gets-a trophy, my kid's-the-grestest world, but the positive results - which go well beyond wins - speak for themselves.
