Sanderson Basketball

Sanderson Basketball

Whenever Sanderson gets Parker Fennema back, look out. They play tough physical basketball that reminds you of Pitt. Traywick has been solid.

RE: Sanderson Basketball

They have had so many close games. They are my number 4 pick in the Cap 8 and normally i would slide them down but with Fennema back they will win a lot more game. If he would of been present all season they would look much diffrent.

RE: Sanderson Basketball

Got Fennema back last night and beat Knightdale, may be a suprise team in the CAP 8. Traywick showed he is a player. Sanderson seem to be very unselfish and team oriented, great team chemistry, that may make them relevant in tough CAP 8. I was impressed.

RE: Sanderson Basketball

Sanderson,at full strength with Fennema back, led Knightdale from start to finish. By playing unselfish team basketball, both offensively and defensively,Sanderson was able to build a sizable lead that Knightdale, although a valiant effort, just could not overcome. Shabazz for Knightdale and Traywick for Sanderson were both outstanding, each dropping twenty-nine points. Traywick though, seemed determined to get the much needed win, he contributes to that team in many ways.

RE: Sanderson Basketball

Another tough loss last Friday night against Wakefield and should probaly be considered an upset. Sanderson proved that they can run with anyone and are never out of a game. They however must find a way to pull out some of these close games by finishing down the stretch. Again they were not at full strength with Will Judy out with an injury. No excuses though, guys have to step up when their number is called. Traywick is an iron man, he played the entire game and it may have caught up with him at the end. The gym was electric, fan support tremendous, and this team despite four losses is a serious contender and exciting to watch.

RE: Sanderson Basketball

The Spartans were able to pull out a crucial win on Tuesday at home against Cap 8 foe Heritage. It wasn't always pretty but they still managed to win by 15, again w/o key player Will Judy. Every win in the Cap 8 is a good win this year. The next night in a non conference away game against Panther Creek, they again won by 15, except this time they played with the same togetherness and unselfishness that they displayed in their win against Knightdale. They also did a much better job of limiting turnovers and making free throws. Except for the fourth quarter at Garner, Sanderson has played great on the road. There is a cohesiveness about this team that shows that they like and trust one another, evidenced by the way they make the extra pass, talk, and help each other on defense. If they can avoid injury to key players so that they are all on the court at the same time and continue the development of their team chemistry, then I predict the Spartans will win more of the close games that they have lost, especially at home.

RE: Sanderson Basketball

Despite a heartbreaking double overtime loss to eventual South Granville tourney winner Ravenscroft, a game the Spartans lead and controlled until the last minute and thirty-four seconds, Sanderson has to feel good about their overall performance. Instead of sulking and getting down on themselves, they responded with a solid fifteen point win against a scrappy and tenacious Warren County team that wanted nothing more than to hand the Spartans a second upset loss. The scenerio repeated itself exactly the next game against Southern Alamance. In both cases Sanderson closed the deal and played an entire four quarters, withstanding a very rough and physical game. The games were an excellent tune up for the upcoming Cap 8 conference play. They must also feel good about the outstanding play of Parker Fennema who showed why he is considered one of the premier players in the Cap 8. He definitely appears to be back from a severe ankle injury and was an all tourney selection. Traywick continued his steady play, he was diligent in keeping his teammates involved and the Spartans continued to share the basketball. This team appears to be ready.

RE: Sanderson Basketball

Another injury and as a result, another opponent escapes with a win. The Spartans entered last Friday night's game against Millbrook without power forward Ellis Oakley, (knee injury), and for the first two quarters it showed. Millbrook attacked like a team possessed, determined to prove that they don't intend on relinquishing last year's conference title. They absolutely dominated and entered the third quarter up by twenty-three. The game appeared over. Whatever Coach Shaw gave his team to drink at halftime should be bottled and sold because Sanderson, facing adversity they had not seen so far this season, responded with persistence, tenacious defense, and a resolve to change the apparent outcome outscored Millbrook by 20 in the second half only to fall short by three in the end. It appeared early that Millbrook would be the first team this season to blow the Spartans out, instead they ended up holding on for dear life. Again in losing another close game, Sanderson has to feel good about how they reacted to a dire situation and never gave up and fought back. Millbrook did what it should have done, which is to defend their home court, something all Cap 8 teams must do. Unfortunately injuries are a part of the game and all teams have to deal with it, the teams that persist despite injuries are the ones who will prove most successful in the end.

RE: Sanderson Basketball

Sanderson is a very ok team...If they make the play offs they will probably lose in the first round...They are certainly improved on last year, but they had no where to go but up.

RE: Sanderson Basketball

Sanderson is a team that has had to adjust to missing key players in just about every game. Their record does reflect what the team brings to a game. They will compete and give you your money's worth. This team has to keep playing, stick together, and remain hungry. I predict them to make the playoffs where I think they'll be very dangerous and tough to beat.

RE: Sanderson Basketball

It's hard to believe that at 1 and 5 in conference play, Sanderson is just one game out of a playoff spot. Although a loss against Broughton last week, the team once again proved that they're a tough out and not easy to beat. They have three games next week that will probaly determine if they make the playoffs this season. Wakefield needed overtime to win, they beat Heritage, and Millbrook held on to win after a furious comeback by Sanderson in the second half. I believe their chances to make the playoffs are just as good as any team in the conference, it just depends on how badly they want it.
