Women's 4A
Millbrook played South View today in the women's 4A East Championship game today...I wanted to note that this game was very exciting and had some good tough ball being played. #34 for South View was a phenomenal player. She could do it all...About 6'2", could handle, shoot, post up, and multiple moves from the mid range, under the basket, and to open up for 3...I can see how they were undefeated going into this game. She was the best girls bball player I have seen in a long while...
That said, Millbrook/W Forsyth should be a good match up...WF has good players and is well coached, and best of all they are hot right now...Excited should be good terminology for this game...
RE: Women's 4A
I think you are talking about Sidney Cook..I believe she is heading to Seton Hall to play for Anne Donovan next year.
RE: Women's 4A
It was a very good game. Too many Millbrook Girls though, and they would not be denied. Yes, Sidney Cook is good and does have a Div. 1 scholarship. I think She needs to play more against better competition as she can be undiciplined at times. But none the less, a very good player and one of the best in the state. The bad news for everyone; that Millbrook team is full of JUNIORS. It is early but wait till next year, they have the potential to be Nationaly Ranked. They have the potential and they have matured. Watch Out!
What
Yes I agree they should be even better next year provided the parents allow the coach to actually do the coaching. I have seen teams with this type of talent on them not live up to expectations the next year because parents are putting things in the kids heads...hopefully that won't happen with this group.
RE: Women's 4A
Very True Carybball but I don't think that will happen for 2 reasons:
1) Coach East has a set of rules they adhere to, no exceptions. Over the years I have seen his best players sit on the bench in key games for a team rule violation, a missed practice or a school infraction. Example: the Holiday tournament this year. They played that tournament with 3 players on suspension, 2 starters. Their 2 losses this year, came as a result of those suspensions. I think after that is when this team matured.
2) They had already went through a me first era and internal team disfunction in their first year at Millbrook and in the finals last year; I believe they learned from that.
We will see on Saturday. Good Luck to the Lady Wildcats!
RE: Women's 4A
Carybball, These same girls made it to the state championship game last year as well...No need to worry about parents or kids being, or becomming prima donnas...
And next year they get their other 6'4" UNC commit back. Bria Day has been injured all year...
I think Sidney Cook is a fantastic player, right up there with Brianna Day as the best I have seen...
RE: Women's 4A
really chuck? Lets not use this as an opportunity to attack a young lady's character.
She is going to be mentored by a great coach in Anne Donovan!
Good Luck to Millbrook.
RE: Women's 4A
Not attacking her character. I didnt say she is a bad person. I'm commenting on her as a basketball player and her attitude on the court, not as a young lady off the court. I've spoken with her several times and she is a well mannered, polite girl. My comments were about her as a basketball player.
RE: Women's 4A
I tend to agree with Chuck in this case. He is not attacking her character. Anne Donovan is an outstanding coach and will get the most out of Sidney if Sidney will allow her. I am not sure that the girl has really been playing the the right position for her. I can assure you she will be in good hands and she will get to play right away at Seton Hall
RE: Women's 4A
The Millbrook and S. View game was a very good game, however, the problem that I saw was S. Cooke was playing her position and all the other positions except for the point guard. She has/had some help, but very little help. She is an awesome player to watch, and I enjoyed every minute of the game.
As far as Millbrook is concerned, they will be just fine! Coach East has a POWERHOUSE of a team and as stated, they are all JUNIORS and the next five coming off the bench are just as talented! He has a no-nonsense tolerance for the political stuff that is thrown at him. Coach East sat three of his best players (2 starters and the 6th man) on the bench when they were disciplined, and if you don't show for practice on time you are benched that game.. Let Go Millbrook..
RE: Women's 4A
Millbrook does have one Senior starter, Taylor Houston. Taylor is one of the best defensive players in the league and will be a loss. However, when you have 6' 4" Bria Day to fill that slot (Bria did not play this year because of a shoulder injury) or brining in Katlyn Mitchell as the small forward who at her height can rebound like a forward but she shoots like a guard. Like ILuvBall says, they are a powerhouse. Why next year they could go 6'4', 6'4" and 6'1" across the front line. Thats bigger then many Colleges!
