PAC 6 AND GREEN HOPE
RE: PAC 6 AND GREEN HOPE
I've got no dawg in this fight but I do travel HWY 55 a great deal. To be honest PC and GH are awfully close to Durham. It would seem there would be no travel distance issue whatsoever. There are a lot of other schools with a great deal more travel issues.
RE: PAC 6 AND GREEN HOPE
lazydawg - my hunch would be that the resistance towards GH and PC going to the PAC-6 and the documented (as in read quotes in both Herald-Sun and News & Observer articles) positive perspective from some admin folks on the Durham end of things has very, very, very little to do with 'travel issues'.
Looking at this on the surface from a geographical perspective, if this had to be done then yes, GH and PC are the most logical 4A schools to make this move. Both are incredibly close to Jordan and not too much further away to Hillside. That said, they are also not incredibly far away from some others within their conference as it currently stands.
From the PC perspective all I've seen from their end is a top-notch organization athletically, from the student-athlete to the administrator. And I saw that with GH a number of years back prior to the opening of PC. I have no doubt that the acquisition of their new AD is going to be seen in a very positive way with each passing month (and before someone drops a comment about the new AD at GH and the Person and Hillside games...take a moment and think about everything first).
My gut is that the 'issues' have very little to do with what has been discussed in this forum, aside from a single point raised by one poster in a line of reasons (only place I saw it raised).
In the end, I hope that it works out on all levels for all involved. I'll end by saying that GH and PC in their current conference has been a very good thing. And there is some good anecdotal evidence to point to this move not being in the best interest of either of those schools. Whereas, I would suggest that all of the PAC-6 schools will gain something in this move (as in they will gain more than they had with ECH and SD in their conference [note that SD will still play HHS according to reports and I would imagine other Durham squads in non-conf]).

Thank you for your well written post.
RE: PAC 6 AND GREEN HOPE
They will continue to fight it because it they have issues playing in a conference with athletes. You can call it stereotypical behavior or not but there is something about Durham that puts the fear of god in any one from Cary/wake co. We all know that Durham is considered the black sheep of the triangle
RE: PAC 6 AND GREEN HOPE
I hear you durhamfbfan, and bullcityfootball, it would take a blind man not to see the elephant in the room.
My point is that GH and PC just need to deal with it / get over it. There are plenty of schools with legitimate issues with the proposed realignment. Western Harnett, located just a few miles from the Lee. Moore and Cumberland County lines have been taken out of their conference with Lee, Moore and Cumberland County schools and put in one with mostly Johnston Co schools. Their natural rivals will be lost and their travel times will be greatly increased. Harnett Central will go into the conference GH and PC are leaving and while this will renew a long rivalry with Fuquay Varina we will be the only non-Wake school. We will be a 1400k school playing schools mostly over 2k. This after just beginning to develop our rivalries with schools like Garner, SER and Clayton. Heck the Harnett County School board even briefly discussed pulling out of the NCHSAA because of the high cost of travel for Western Harnett. So my point is they (GH & PC) need to just make the best of the situation. They should be happy that they remain in a compact conference with an opportunity to develop rivalries.
RE: PAC 6 AND GREEN HOPE
I can't believe that this has come into play in high school sports!!! If anything this will help with their(PC and GH) players getting recruited!! The more kids recruited in this area the better..It looks good for our area PEOPLE!! This is just insane!! REALLY!! all this over realignment of 2 schools?? C'MON SON!!
RE: PAC 6 AND GREEN HOPE
Stay in your tight knit community so you can feel safe we all know how threatened you feel when you have to travel outside of Wake County, god forbid you have to actually interact with anyone outside of your social circle.
Tarheeled could you do a spell check for me I know how much grammatical errors bother you.
RE: PAC 6 AND GREEN HOPE
staciehall,
The blog you posted a link to has ZERO to do with realignment... That's reASSIGNMENT. That blogpost is referring to the school to which students are assigned by WCPSS.
I'm aware that this battle has been going on since before the issues of last week (trust me I have the delightful emails to prove it). I wrote my blog about why Green Hope and Panther Creek should be in the PAC 6 before the issues of last week. I even talked about it as soon as we found out Southern & ECH were dropping to 3A, before any conference alignment drafts were released. It makes sense. I grew up in that area and still live in that area, but I go to Durham all the time. I can get to Jordan & Hillside in 15 mins. Southern it takes me about 20, Northern & Riverside about 25-30. Person would be the long trip... And how is that any different than the current trip to Lee County?
I get that Green Hope & Panther Creek want to play Apex, Cary, etc. And they will continue to do that in the future through non-conference games.
RE: PAC 6 AND GREEN HOPE
I read both articles, so I did understand the earlier one dealt with reassignment. I disagree it has zero in common and feel your concept of community athletes is valid in both cases. Most athletes play rec ball, attend camps, play AAU ball etc with other local athletes. The local businesses love when the local athletes come in at lunch time or the team families gather after games (home and away) and then turn around and support those athletes via their school's sports programs. We ate at the same Apex restaurant every time we played them because we live near Apex, shop in Apex and know it. But when you spread the schools out into different counties, the number of businesses you are able to draw support from goes down. The current plan on the table is for 4 years...in my opinion, that is a lot of heartache and drama for a temporary solution. I think having an athlete that is impacted by this versus analyzing trip times and geography with nothing at stake makes it more real and personal for us and easier and painless for others.
On a personal note...I have known you and your family for years. My youngest son went to pre-k and then played AAU ball with your younger brother, you graduated with my oldest son and my middle son knew of you at State. Local connections. I don't want to have a verbal battle with you and won't post again. Thank you for letting me clear up my first post.
RE: PAC 6 AND GREEN HOPE
lazydawg58 - I still haven't seen any discussion on what I think both sides, those on the GH and PC side of things and those on the Durham side of things think is ultimately important in this realignment. I can't be for certain on what you are hinting at as the elephant in the room, but based on your earlier posts I don't think it is what I'm suggesting as I think you would have stated it if we were thinking the same thing. And I don't want to assume what you might be thinking.
As for folks talking about kids getting recruited more by playing in the PAC-6 versus the Tri-9 - IMHO, I think that has about zilch to do with any of this...my point, I don't see that as being something that folks on the PC/GH side would look at as being a 'positive'. In part because I honestly don't see any hard facts that would indicate any correlation between conference and student-athletes to the next level. Think that is simply conjecture.
As I said earlier, if this holds. I think that every school in the PAC-6 is going to benefit in one particular way - and I think that many on that side understand that fact and are thus conveniently provided w/ a tangible reason to support the move. On the flip side, I think both GH and PC will immediately lose something with the move.
As for PC and GH or Middle Creek, Cary etc not wanting to have any thing to do with Durham schools. Think that is completely bogus. Facts, GH and PC have played Jordan often. Middle Creek has played Northern and Southern. All of these games have been regular season non-conf games.
