Lee County's Jahmir Smith commits to Notre Dame

Sanford, N.C. — Lee County senior running back Jahmir Smith has committed to Notre Dame, the standout Yellow Jacket announced Sunday afternoon.
Smith compiled 27 scholarship offers before deciding to join the Irish: Appalachian State, Brown, California, Dartmouth, Duke, East Carolina, Georgia Tech, Harvard, Louisville, Mississippi, North Carolina, NC State, Nebraska, Northwestern, Notre Dame, Ohio University, Old Dominion, Princeton, Purdue, Rutgers, Southern California, Tennessee, UAB, UNC-Charlotte, Vanderbilt, Virginia and Wisconsin.
Smith led the Yellow Jackets with 2,130 rushing yards and 40 touchdowns last season. He also averaged 6.7 yards per carry and posted 100-yard rushing games 11 times in his junior campaign.
He was used sparingly in the passing game, tallying seven catches for 117 receiving yards and one touchdown but led the team with an average of 172.8 all-purpose yards.
