Posted December 26, 2013
Clayton hung with Lake Highland the first two minutes of the game, but aside from a 2-0 lead to start the game, the Comets never led in a 73-45 loss to Lake Highland Prep (FL).
The Highlanders opened up a 10-2 lead before Clayton called a timeout to stop the run, but Lake Highland was too much.
Devon Giddens led the Highlanders in the first half with 10 points, and University of North Carolina recruit Joel Berry scored nine points in the first half.
Lake Highland led Clayton 24-9 after the first quarter, and extended that lead to 37-20 at halftime. Gary Clark, a Cincinnati recruit, led Clayton in the first half with nine points, but no other Comet had more than four points.
The Comets attempted a run in the second half, bringing the deficit inside 15 points twice, but Lake Highland was too much.
Clayton will take on Moss Point (MS) in the consolation bracket at 10 a.m. on Friday morning, while Lake Highland advances to the semifinals and will play Apex at 7 p.m.
