Knightdale holds off Rolesville to advance to GNRC finals

Garner, N.C. — Knightdale will get another shot at Garner in the Greater Neuse River Conference championship game after a 62-51 win over Rolesville on Tuesday night.
The Knights built a big early lead but had to hold on in the second half.
Tristan Davis and Shane Saigo led Knightdale in the first quarter with six points each, giving the Knights an 18-7 lead over the Rams going into the second quarter.
Knightdale continued to build a lead before halftime. Xavier Fennell and Marcus Manley each scored five points in the second quarter as Knightdale led 34-19 at the break.
But Rolesville fought back in the second half.
Behind seven points from Jamaal Farrar, Rolesville outscored Knightdale 14-6 in the third quarter to close the gap to 40-33 with just one quarter left.
Rolesville was never able to complete the comeback though. Knightdale went 10-of-14 from the free throw line in the fourth quarter and Fennell added nine points as Knightdale held off the Rams.
Knightdale was led in scoring by Saigo's 18 points, Fennell's 15 points and Davis' 10 points.
Ricky Clemons led Rolesville with 16 points in the losing effort. Farrar posted 11 points for the Rams.
Knightdale will face Garner in the conference championship game at 8 p.m. on Thursday at Campbell University.
