FINAL Kinston 44 Millbrook 31: Kinston won a hard fought, defensive struggle against Millbrook 44-31 in the third place game of the American Airlines Bracket. There were many scoring records flirting with being broken today between Kinston and Millbrook, none of which you want to be associated with. Millbrook flirted with fewest points scored in a game (record is 24) and fewest made field goals, while both teams were close to combining for lowest combined point total in a game (record is 69).

The Wildcats were stymied all night by a mixture of defenses from the Vikings and were never really able to put together any type of run. Kinston showed some signs of life and consistency in the third quarter, outscoring the Millbrook 14-7 in the quarter to gain a comfortable lead. Kinston went on a 12-0 run that spanned the latter parts of the 3rd and into the 4th quarter to gain a lead of 18 points. Millbrook was able to get no closer than 13 points the rest of the way.

Kinston was led in scoring by 8 points by Josh Dawson. Millbrook was paced by Karon Blount's14 points

END 3Q Kinston 30 Millbrook 20: Kinston has finally shown a little bit of life on the offensive side as they exploded for 14 points in the third quarter to stretch their lead to double digits. The Vikings held Millbrook to only 2 field goals in that quarter.

Kinston is led in scoring by Josh Dawson who has 8 points (all 8 being in the third quarter). Millbrook is still led by Karon Blount's 7 points.

HALFTIME Kinston 16 Millbrook 13: Millbrook and Kinston playing at a very slow pace in the first half and not making many shots either as the Vikings lead 16 to 13 at halftime. Millbrook only managed 2 buckets in the second quarter, as Kinston's man to man defense combined with a little zone has suffocated the WIldcats.

Nakeil Williams is leading scorer for Kinston with 4 points, while Karon Blount has 7 points for Millbrook.

Karon Blount- 7 pts

Robert Brown- 2 pts

END 1Q Kinston 9 Millbrook 9: Both teams are off to a slow start early in this contest. Kinston has had 4 different players score thus far, while Millbrook's Karon Blount continues his hot shooting, scoring an early 7 points for the Wildcats.

PREGAME: We are in Game 4 of the final day of the 2011 HighSchoolOT.com Holiday Invitational as Kinston High School and Millbrook battle for 3rd place in the American Airlines Bracket. These are two teams that possibly saw themselves battling for a championship, but will look to leave Raleigh with a 2-1 record.

Kinston finds themselves in the third place game after squandering a late lead against Garner on Thursday night in a 69-65 loss to the Trojans. The Vikings who led for most of the games struggled in the 4th quarter after point guard Josh Dawson fouled out early in the frame. Combined with poor free throw shooting, Garner was able to overcome the Vikings and send Kinston the 3rd place game. Center Denzel Keyes led Kinston with 24 points and 14 rebounds on Thursday night.

Millbrook is coming off a tough loss to St Raymond’s (Bronx, NY) on Thursday afternoon. The Wildcats fell behind early in the game and were never able to get over the hump and take control of the game. Millbrook and St Raymond’s were all square at 44-44 entering the fourth quarter, but the Ravens toughness and leadership ended up being too much. Millbrook was led in scoring by Karon Blount’s 21 points.
