Garner signs athletes in three different sports

— Three different senior athletes at Garner High School signed national letters of intent on Wednesday afternoon during a ceremony at the school.

Trey Capps, Wellington Guzman and Alex Reed all signed letters on Wednesday.

Capps signed his letter of intent with William Peace University to play golf. Capps finished the 4A Mideast regional with a 76, two strokes away from qualifying for the state championship match in Pinehurst. He was also named the Greater Neuse River Conference Player of the Year for the 2017 season.

Guzman will continue his baseball career at Winston-Salem State University next season. Guzman was an all-conference selection in the Greater Neuse River Conference this season with a batting average of .378. He had 31 hits with 19 RBIs in 26 games this season, helped Garner to an 18-8 record and an appearance in the second round of the state playoffs.

Reed signed a basketball scholarship offer with The Citadel. Reed was the Greater Neuse River Conference Player of the Year this past season, earning spots in the Carolinas All-Star Classic and N.C. Coaches Association East-West All-Star games.
