Severe weather could threaten central North Carolina on Wednesday evening and overnight into Thursday.
As a result, Franklin and Wayne County Schools have decided to cancel all athletic events scheduled for Wednesday.
Practices at schools in Franklin County can take place but must end by 7 p.m.
North Carolina is under an elevated risk for severe weather Wednesday evening and early Thursday morning.
"We could see a spotty shower during the day at any point, but we're really going to have to watch things this evening and tonight," WRAL meteorologist Elizabeth Gardner said. "Chances will pick up during the evening and we could see storms until after midnight."
The primary threat from the storms will be strong winds and isolated tornadoes.
At 4 p.m., Wake County Public Schools said they have not cancelled after school activities at a district level. The school system is leaving the decision to postpone up to individual schools.
