WFR holds on for win over Southern Durham

Sep 4, 2010

Wake Forest-Rolesville scored the first 21-points, but the Cougars had to hang on to defeat Southern Durham 24-17.

Marcus Jones scored first for Wake Forest-Rolesville off a 15-yard run in the opening quarter. The George Lopez extra-point gave the Cougars an early 7-0 lead.

The Cougars built on their lead in the second quarter.

John Conyers ran into the end zone from one-yard out, and Chris Love converted the two-point attempt to put Wake Forest-Rolesville up 15-0.

Later in the quarter, Love broke a 21-yard run to score a touchdown. Lopez's extra-point failed.

The Cougars led the Spartans 21-0 at the half.

In the third quarter, Southern Durham's defense recorded a safety to put the Spartans on the scoreboard for the first time.

Southern Durham made a push in the fourth quarter to get back in the game.

Dorian Belcher caught an 11-yard pass from Darien Bullock for a touchdown, then Belcher completed a pass to Jahmieh Johnson for two-points.

Southern Durham trailed 21-10.

Wake Forest-Rolesville's only second half points came from Lopez when he hit a 35-yard field goal to push the Cougar lead to 24-10.

The Spartans didn't quit though.

Javonte Partridge completed a short pass to Justin Dukes inside the five-yard line for a touchdown.

But Southern Durham ran out of time.
