Rocky Mount held on to beat Nash Central Friday night to stay undefeated on the season, 13-6.
The Gryphons led 13-0 at halftime, but the Bulldogs pulled within seven on a 34-yard touchdown run by Jarius Richardson.
Nash Central missed on two more opportunities to close the gap, misfiring on a field goal to end one scoring drive and fumbling away another in Rocky Mount territory.
The game hinged on one last drive for Nash Central. With two minutes left, the Bulldogs went for it on 4th and 11. Khalil Macklin had Richardson open in the end zone, but the pass deflected off his fingertips.
Rocky Mount (6-0, 1-0 Big East) travels to Hunt next week, while Nash Central (2-4, 0-1 Big East) goes on the road to play Fike.
