The Cary Imps defeated the Broughton Capitals Friday night at Broughton Stadium in Raleigh by a final score of 21-7.
The Capitals struck first on a 14-yard touchdown pass from Maclin Batchelor to Aaron Roberts early in the 2nd quarter to give Broughton a 7-0 lead. However, Cary answered back with 4:41 before halftime as Imps quarterback Jordan Dawson connected with tight end Justin Murphy over the middle from 22 yards out for Cary’s first touchdown of the evening.
As the rain began to fall both teams went with a conservative game plan in the 3rd quarter, which yielded no scoring from either side. But, with 8:17 to go in the ballgame Jordan Dawson who had a hand in all of the Imps scoring kept it around the left end for what would prove to be the go ahead touchdown.
The Imps then marched down the field on the legs of workhorse running back Marquise Sherrod-Ponds (28 carries, 137 yards). Jordan Dawson would find the end zone once again, this time via the air as he connected on a 26-yard catch and run with Imps wide receiver Jamaine Dabney with just under 4 minutes remaining in the contest to put Cary up 21-7 over Broughton.
The Capitals were lead by Maclin Batchelor through the air as he connected on 16 of 31 passes for 185 yards and a touchdown, 49 of which wound up in the hands of Broughton’s leading receiver David Hernandez. Darryl Webster led the Broughton rushing attack with 84 yards on 21 carries.
Cary was led offensively by quarterback Jordan Dawson who completed 8 of 17 passes for 75 yards and 2 touchdowns. Dawson also picked up 101 yards and a touchdown on the ground.
Broughton moves to 0-1 on the season and will be back in action next Friday night at Southeast Raleigh. Cary is now 1-0 and will take on Cardinal Gibbons at home next Friday night.
