Burlington Cummings, the top seed in the Class 2A Mideast bracket of the NCHSAA state football playoffs, ousted the No. 5 seed Franklinton Red Rams Friday by a score of 35-8.
The Cavaliers were simply too much for Franklinton, which ends the season at 10-2.
In the first quarter, the Red Rams fumbled at their own 33, setting up Cummings first score. Allen Barnwell carried the ball from the 22 to put Cummings up 6-0.
On the kickoff, Reggie Williams looked good on the return until a a fumble at midfield. J.J. Johnson recovered for Cummings, and Barnwell cashed his check. With the two-point conversion, Cummings led 14-0.
In the second quarter, Cummings' Keith McAdoo hit Tyler McAllister on fourth and six from the Red Rams 13 yard line to extend the lead to 21-0.
