Southern Nash was hosting and looking to stay perfect on the season, but it was Bunn that jumped out to a 7-0 lead on the opening drive. The Bruins cleaned up their play just enough in the second half to grab a 21-17 victory.
Southern Nash (3-0, 0-0 Big East) on the ensuing drive, traveled to the Bunn 16 before turning the ball back on a fumble, squandering an opportunity. They would miss again later in the first half. before turning it around in the second half.
Into the second quarter, Bunn (1-2, 0-0 Northern Carolina) quarterback Montrel Cooke threw a 45-yard TD pass to Johnathon Alston to put the visiting Wildcats up 14-0 going into half.
But three second half touchdowns and a solid defensive output in the second half allowed Southern Nash to walk away with the 21-17 win.
Southern Nash play at Roanoke Rapids (2-0, 0-0 Northern Carolina) Sept. 9. Bunn is at North Johnston (2-1, 0-0 Northern Carolina) Sept. 16 after a bye.
