Bullcity, I remember those days too about East Wake being a force. I don't think they have been the same since Knightdale opened though. Especially not after it had been open for a couple of years. And I definitely think Panther Creek has affected Green Hope. IMO, the caliber of football in Wake County as a whole, has gotten much better over the last 5 years or so. Teams now can actually compete with and beat, teams out of Fayetteville, Durham, and Wilmington, as well as, Rose and New Bern.

Actually HSFootballover they don't have to all be in the same division to be in the same conference. In areas where there are not many schools of the same size you will find mixed conferences. The 3A Brunswick Co schools are often in the same conference with N. Hanover 4A schools for example. Rose was originally suppose to be a member of the Greater Neuse River Conference because there were so few 4A schools in eastern NC. They found a better conference situation for them eventually but can you imagine having your high schooler making road trips from Greenville to Johnston, Wake and Harnett Counties for every away game! It's at least an hour and a half from Harnett.

highschoolrocks believe it or not I remember when east wake was a powerhouse. All three have seen the playoffs and Green Hope was deep in the playoffs before Panther creek opened up.

Wake has 20 4a high schools(with Heritage added) in which I predict all of them except FV will probably go 4AA

In the 4AA Wake Co had 10 out of 16 teams in the Playoff. In 4A there were 5 teams in. So in the 32 team 4A/AA level almost half was Wake Co. Out of the 15 teams 3 had losing records, would have been 4 had TS not had to forfeit to Broughton. Just some FYI.

Wake County football has definitely gotten better the last five years or so. Programs like Leesville, Wake Forest, and Fuquay have been on impressive runs over that time. Throw in staples like Millbrook, Garner, and SE Raleigh and that gives Wake County some real good football. Finally, there seems to be some schools that are on the upswing like Broughton, Panther Creek, Middle Creek, and others who have become much more competitive. The only decline really in the county over this period has been at East Wake/Knightdale (never really been good) and places like Greene Hope.

Just wondering how many 4A schools there are in the east and what percentage of those there are from Wake County? Aren't there 19 in Wake? You've got a few in Durham, cumberland, Johnston, and New Hanover and then New Bern, Greenville Rose, Lumberton, Harnett Central, Hoke, not many really. Are half the 4A east from Wake?

Wake Forest has to be included as well. The Cap 8 looks pretty good this year.

The quality and quantity of teams in Wake County has improved. I am impressed that so many programs are a lot stronger than they were abour 5 years ago. Examples are Middle Creek, Panther Creek,FV,Wakefield,Broughton,Leesville Rd.,Millbrook have impressive records. Garner has always been a good program and rep the county well for years, but man 4AAA will be tough this year.

Why? What has happened to change that perpespective? If you are refering to Hillsides victory, I thought they were from Durham County not Wake.
