The HEELS need to change their defensive perspective. It's not working at all and frankly hurting my feelings. LOL GO HEELS!

I wonder if they will any of the 2018 freshman, Wilson, Brown etc.

He had an injury very end of last season. He needs to redshirt and put on some size! Think that UNC would be much better off if they could start redshirting some of their freshmen.

Pass coverage by the line backers needs to improve, drastically. But like you said, some resemblance of a pass rush would alleviate some of these issues. Haven't really heard about Lawler this year, is he being red-shirted?

Improving tackling and getting pressure on the QB would be two good points for the D to work on.

Yea Dalton's play at the end of the 1st half against Cal changed the game, they only had 7 points at that point and scored on the next play or 2 and gave them the big MO going into the half.

10 and 36 are good run stuffers and hitters, just not good coverage guys. At least my Packers showed some defense last weekend!

I would agree on Smith #7 - #36 is garbage no big fan of #10 either. Dalton shows flashes but he makes some bone head penalties. I bet he has been ejected at least 2- 3 times since he has been a starter or in the rotation.

I love Ruff, but the 2014 and 2015 classes were his. Anywhere from grades, transfers, and discipline problems are the reasons for all those players missing. He was a player's coach, but behind the scenes they were acting a fool.

Hasn't been pretty, I'm not denying it. Have to cut down on the penalties and missed assignments. Looking to see if the sophomore's and first-year starters can approve on the D as the season goes along. Like to see Smith get a little more playing time at LB, love his game.

UNC is like NB they have seen better days and I will leave it at that but anyone that knows football knows that UNC is one of the worst defensive teams statistically in the Nation for a large power 5 state school. Facts don't lie. Something on that side of the ball doesn't make sense. You would think going against that offense would make them better but obviously that has not. Poor coaching or poor players I'm not in the know but I know what my eyes tell me and I can understand Louisville to a degree (not 700 yards) but Cal with a freshman qb and new coach. Cough then upchuck!

This recruiting class is different from Larry's past classes, that is the difference. I'm not knocking Duke's schedule, I'm just saying hold the phone until they play the teams I mentioned. I'm a big fan of Cut and what he's done with that program. We'll see what UNC can do the rest of the season, no need to panic, yet.

  • Tyler12 Sep 13, 9:02 a.m.

UNC lost their starting QB, RB and best D-linemen who all entered the draft early. I don't think the program is in a downward spiral after 8 quarters of the season. Like to see Chazz play a few full games, kid is a gamer along with Carter.

They have always had 4 stars so not sure what that has to do with anything. Just like they have always scored points but until they clean up the other side of the ball they will get 40 point run up on them like clock work. Schedules are made far in advance and when Duke's schedule was done Baylor was a top 25 program and NW while not the upper echelon of the Big 10 they are not the laughing stock. I would say they are just as good if not better than Cal and we saw how that ended for the Heels. Duke has always played Miami and Va Tech tough so not sure that matters I would venture to say they will beat one of those 2. FSU who knows with their qb situation. If Duke D can improve they will win 8 this year. Whomever wins that game on the 23rd is going to be in much better shape than the other one and based on early numbers UNC could be in trouble. Jones will rip them a new one. No 4 star there but he is rising on the NFL boards big time. Player Development UNC doesn't do that!

UNC always seem to get their share of the top in state talent that did not leave for another state. Regardless of academic scandals they still get their guys so I will never understand why they can't win there

Not sure about ECU but UNC has a ton of instate talent coming in with Brown (West Meck) , Jones (Havelock), Wilson (Orange), Adams (Green Hope) and the QB from Arizona who are all 4 stars. I'm sure they like what they see from Freshman Surratt and Carter. State is going towards the right direction? Lost a game they should've won against SC and they lose all that D line plus Samuels etc after this year. Duke plays a very weak non-conference schedule, lets see what they do against Miami, Va Tech and FSU.

Can't blame the current ECU coach for jumping at the opportunity but this should all be on the AD. His call I assume to get rid of McNeil so he should own it now. Hopefully folks don't have memory loss in the ridiculous reasons offered for letting McNeil go. Exactly where did he envision ECU going after posting 10 and 8 win seasons.

I believe Scotty is over his head at ECU. Ruffin is laughing his aztec off I'm sure. ECU and UNC are both in dire straits IMO. Wake, State and Duke seem to be headed in the right direction. Both Duke and Wake have their limits but both are in better shape than last year. Cannot be said for UNC and ECU.

I think Tyler was right that things were going in the right direction until the def coaching change. I just don't think Fedora recruits the def side of the ball like he does the off side. I don't think UNC will ever be a great def team under Fedora.

Doing better than my Pirates. Our ship is sinking. Out of 52 players from the 2014 and 2015 recruiting classes, only 15 of those players are still on the roster. Lord help us

Tyler.......let's not blame the refs or criticize their calls.....we all know they rarely make bad calls. Keep in mind, some refs are human!! We don't want feelings hurt. I have several good friends who are bad refs. They're great people off the field, BUT on the field, they are Kim Jong Un on a bad hair day, in other words, nasty!!!

Were they supposed to beat Clemson? Refs botched the illegal offside call, would've been interesting to see UNC have the ball around midfield.

I said it in 2015. That year they went from giving up almost 500 yards a game to less than 400 yards a game en route to playing for the ACC Championship against Clemson. They made strides yet again in 2016 but Coach Chiz retired after the season. Losing Naz Jones to early entry of the NFL draft earlier this year really hurt this years squad.

But too bad you didn't call me out after that 2015 season when they improved (like I said they would) and played in the ACC title game! Come on, man!

  • Tyler12 Sep 9, 11:09 p.m.

Under Gene Chizik, absolutely. They made huge strides under his guidance. Gave up 5 TD's of 50 yards all of last year, already 3 this year. But come on, doesn't Jackson do this to everyone? Including the eventual National Champions last year?

As far as what I said about Hillside, I still stand by that today.

    Go Bears!

I could make a All American list of all the defensive studs that have gotten out of this state. Many of them were never offered or offered way late.

    Problem starts there.

#7 not too late to transfer to UGA and join Z. Andre Smith is not better than you plus he talks better than he plays - LOL! He should have to run the stadium steps 702 times.

This my tribute to the great statements that my man Tyler has made:

    1. Fedora has a lot of young players they will get it right on Defense - 702 yards today. Has to be some kinda of record. I think this was 2 or 3 years ago. Lets cut to the chase UNC defense is horrible.
    2. Wait to next week - LOL
