even BCV and Byron admit that the stats showed that one wasn't as close as the score indicated

why wont hillside beat Scotland or Dudley ? Hillside almost beat them until the great comeback (Dudley)

I think that's the prediction that makes the most sense. I really don't see any way that Hillside beats Dudley or Scotland but I don't think they'll have trouble with New Bern.

Doubt New been will improve enough to win. Depends on how much Dudley falls back. Regardless of what the hornet faithful believe, last year's game could have easily been a blowout dudley's way but hillside still almost won. The distance between those two teams was much bigger than the score. Scotland will run ALL OVER hillside unless they junk that junk 3-3. 1-2 or possible 2-1 are realistic ooc records for hillside. They should be commended for their scheduling cause they will definitely win plenty if not all in conference.

Hillside to an 0-3 start??????? Doesnt even sound right .... who do you go for ?? Hillside Can beat all three of them and you know this anything is possible tho but at least think a little bit more when you say something unrealistic like that

MRAAU- Any QB update?? Southern has produced 3 straight D-1 QB's, is this kid at that caliber?

  • Mraau95 Mar 2, 3:11 p.m.
    Sports Legend

Ehhh hillside should do fine out of conference. Don't think they lost a lot. Scotland a d Dudley are definitely winnable games and unless new Bern has made som drastic improvements I don't see them winning either...southern on the other hand will have a difficult road heading into that game. Both teams will be battle tested by the conference opener for sure

  • eacnut Mar 1, 6:53 p.m.

With Hillside having to play New Bern, Scotland County ,and defending 4A Champions Dudley.
They might be looking at 0-3 before they even play Southern.
They have a tough non-conference schedule.

At this point it is Hillside's to lose. My opinion. I know Northwood has another good running back. Not much more proved offensive talent remaining across the board. Northern will have to develop a QB and hopefully they can leave #22 at wr where he's best. Southern is a mystery. Orange will have to win 2-0 unless Wilson returns punts for scores.

LOL! Ok. I am glad to know we both support the local talent.

By the way, the new Big 8 is interesting in that it is basically Durham and Orange County. Northwood is Chatham. Durham County may rule the new Big 8. :-)

Seems to me it is your emotions ruling the day. Most of what you said below is untrue. I said he was easier to replace than the nose. Yes they will miss him. And if you care to look I wrote on September 27, after someone else stated Northern's #6 should have made it, that he shouldn't have. And I explained in full why I believed that. The only truth in your statement is that I believe Moser got him on the team and that he was bullied in that video. Still stand by that. I also know from reading about practice and watching the game that he had a very good week. I'm personally proud that a local kid is able to take advantage of SEC football and high academics at a school like Vandy. So maybe you should skip the second cup of coffee.

I understand. You have been hating on the kid the entire season for some odd reason. You commented that the kid was dominated in the OL vs DL Shrine Bowl tape that was posted. It is not what the coaches saw. Oh yeah, you also tried to insinuate that he only made the Shrine Bowl because his HC was serving on the team. The kid started in the Shrine Bowl and had an outstanding game. You stated that Carl Fowler should have made the Shrine Bowl but did he even make All Pac 6? Do you think Fowler is easily replaceable?

And by the way, neither of the 2 remaining Orange DL are D1. Not even close. Remove your emotions and be objective.

Both the nose and Sellers back is enough. They will be fine without edwards. Good player but not irreplaceable when you consider who they have coming back.

Actually the nose guard is a junior. So only one starting DL will be missing, Edwards. And I beg to differ, they will miss him significantly. He showed in the Shrine Bowl that he makes his own pressure without needing the nose guard and that was against D1 talent. But that Orange nose guard is a handful and will be interesting to see how he does next season when teams will be planning against him from the start.

Definitely a 3 front. 2 are gone, one to the SEC and the other was the most important guy up front. Their nose. No linemen got to the next level because of him. So I don't care how many guys are back the D won't be as good unless they have a nose that can play like him. Edwards is easier to replace oddly enough.

Their base defense was a 3-4. But they probably had a lot of variations.

I don't mean to contradict you, but I was under the impression that they ran more of a 4-3 with standup ends.

  • uBnice Feb 27, 10:08 a.m.

Whenever I saw Orange's defense, it was 3 DL, 5 LB, 3 DB. One LB (Wilson) would rome. A modified 3-4.

[quote=16552793]Post by Mraau95[/quot Mraau, unless Efland or Hillsborough is walking distance to SD u r wrong. But hey it is not the first time. For those hoping for the demise of the Orange D, they will return 6 starters and 2 back ups that saw the field a decent amount. Also Orange does not play a 3-4, it's a 3-3-5 stack. You are correct, developing a QB and O-line will be paramount. The cupboard is not bear there either. With that said, I still would vote Hillside as pre-season favorite.

The D1 schools haven't finished adding people. And I imagine D2 and D3 schools are still in play. If I recall correctly, the outstanding Northwood running back a couple of years ago signed as late as March or April (maybe even later) with a D2 school. Since I have watched Orange, I only know of the QB Cloer and the DE Edwards from Orange to sign D1. Nothing about D2 and D3.

At last count 6 Northern seniors have been offered a chance to play football next year in college at some level. Orange hasn't had that many in 4 or 5 years total and that is with top notch prospects to bring in the recruiters. But that wasn't my point. Heck, you've made me forget my point. Lol.

Correct me if I'm wrong but how many football players from Orange have signed letters of intent in the last 4 years?? Off top I'm thinking 2 maybe 3

It was a very good decision for the young man to transfer. With Northern he may not have made Big 8 All Conference and he certainly would not have played in the Shrine Bowl. With Northern, he would have played on a losing team with a HC that was on his way to being released. As it stands, his college chances were improved significantly.

  • uBnice Feb 26, 9:41 a.m.
    Veteran

The fact of the matter is that transfers happen. And it is not just a simple case of a kid just changing schools on his own whims. It involves his parents, coaches, and school administrators. As a parent, I would do it to give my child a better opportunity. We focus on football here and lament an athletic transfer. The need for paying for college puts an athletic transfer on equal footing with an academic transfer that is for giving your child a better opportunity. As a coach, why wouldn't I accept an athletic transfer that could help my team win where winning is their ultimate judge?! Lastly, the school administrators have to make all the paperwork work. It is what it is.

They don't share districts. The districts are distinct. It is a complete farce but there are lines. It is no different in any other city or town. You could actually live closer to one school but be districted for another. It is a simple fact that it is easier to transfer to every school in Durham than into Northern because Northern is not a magnet and does not have a transferable pathway. The district continues to do nothing about it. Say whatever you want about what happened back in the 80s or 90s but what goes on now is a joke.

Oh yeah! It matters. Orange had a LB transfer from Northern Durham last year who turned out to be Big 8 All Conference and Shrine Bowl alternate, Devondrez Moore. High school free agency here matters. Orange needs a qb.

The fact of the matter is that Southern and Northern share districts.... Prime example it takes me 8 minutes to drive to Northern High School, however by way of back roads it takes me 15 minutes to get to Southern High School. Many kids are in that situation.......
