I hope so. This board is boring when SD is not on top of their game.

Sanderson added Green Hope's ex head coach Dixon. He will bring a lot of experience to the Spartans offense. I think he will get a lot from Trent pennix. Maybe he can awaken that Spartan offense

@sq lot of kids played both ways and had a lot of internal issues, next season will be a fresh start and the kids are in the weight room now. We'll see what happens

I agree totally! Confidence is huge with teenagers. If they don't have it against the Big Boys they already loss the game. My opinion.

Heritage could definitely be a tough out next season. I just wonder if they are finally ready to get over that mental hump of believing they can actually beat WF, not just give them a good game.

Yep I think so too but they have to get a consistent run game to help #12 out who will be working with all new WRs.

Southern was strong. I can't deny that. I was surprised at the drop off for them.

@sq 4A run circles around 3A??? Hillside beat southern by 1 score, Gibbons(3rd rd) by 2 scores, and again these are teams southern beat the last 2 seasons along with Scotland so while you think circles again the line is very thin and 3AA has had the edge on 4A at least 2 of the last 4 seasons

You're right, it was just last year from what I recall. I was just messing with you a little. Heritage will have their best shot next year to win a conference championship since they opened.

Not really. I definitely was not saying that 2 years ago. Last year? Hmm maybe. My most redundant saying was more like I hope somebody local finally wins a state title. Teams sporting future NFL ballers getting beat in finals was depressing.

Actually, even though we ARE losing 2 defensive linemen that play a lot, 2 of the 3 D-linemen that started the State Championship game were sophomores and are returning.

They have to replace 3 of the 4 linebackers and 2 of the 3 linemen. Some good size players coming back on the dline. Linebackers are the big question. Lucas moves the talent around though. Somebody playing offense one year might be on defense the next. New kids will step up. We'll see who next fall. Don't kid yourself, WF will be competitive next year.

Wake forest def is not the WF of old. They hey good db's but that's it. Won't make it far in the playoffs

Wake Forest looks good on offense but their defense is what separates them. As always, the WF defense will determine their success.

With the loss of potential competitive conference opponents I still don't think WF should be favored to win their conference in 2017. Just my opinion.

Yes WF dodges Sanderson, they were scared to death of them! Please!.....WF I believe still plays both millbrook and LR in non conf play.

LVRD was a quality team and could have beat Heritage last season if not for one or 2 defensive plays.

Not sleeping on LVRD they finished strong last year. I will say the lack on skilled players may continue to hurt them. I'm picking LVRD to finish 3/4 this year

A weak Leesville Road team played WF as well as anyone in the state..at Trentini, and if you weren't nervous - you should have been...the young men are finally getting it together as far as what it takes...a lot of talent coming back and coming up...good luck to all - and keep overlooking LRHS...it is much appreciated...

WF and Heritage dodges Sanderson with the new conference. They could be a force. Millbrook plays their conference foes well and they lose them too. They pick up Rolesville who may be a year away but they have good young group coming up so I will keep an eye on them. Leesville is gone too. Wow.

RM has young talent, there defense should be iffy at first but as they go they will be tough, conference is all there's, 2 years ago they came in second in conference on JV behind southern Nash, they have young QB, there hieght is scary at WR, there backfield will have to grow and offensive will have to grow, Coach Batttle has came in at RM. and put the program back at top, I wouldn't be surprised if they have a few upsets against havelock, DH Conley, Middle creek wise, RM. jv was the only team to beat MC jv last year..... they also have a young kicker coming in with senior chase Miller leaving for college.... I've heard he had a pretty good JV season, he got in 1 game during playoffs and made his kick then????

Max Preps website is showing Rocky Mount @ Havelock.

If that is correct, you're looking @ Middle Creek, @ Conley and @ Havelock. Pretty tough. I think they should be happy with winning 1 of those 3.

Rocky Mount loses their QB's, top 2 RB's, top WR and leading tackler. Big holes to fill.

  • UNCfootball12 Feb 8, 1:00 p.m.

RM will dominate their schedule, @Middle Creek, @Hertford County, @ DH Conley, Vs/@ Havelock(dont know where it is being played), Vs Nash Central

    Should win conference

    Will go around 8-2, 9-1

What do you guys think the will do this season, have gone to state championship past 2 years B2B...

I don't think the new conference (top to bottom) will be as tough as the Cap8. Less number of teams I believe also. So they'll have more opportunity to beef up the non league part of their schedule. Haven't seen the schedule yet, only heard some of the possibilities. Hopefully they'll pair up with some good teams in the non-league portion of the season.

Glad we could clarify for you then. They've consistently been in the top tier of the East since 2008. Yes they finally won the "big" game. Yes they have talent but, there's a lot of hard work that goes on when no one's watching. They consistently work in the weight room in the off season and in 7on7's during the summer. If you follow them like some of us do you can see the results in the kids from the end of one season to the next.

They were not the same team whenever Pittman was out. Still plenty of key talent for Heritage returning healthy so they should be thinking title shot. Will WF get lazy now that they are champs? New conference new year. Whoever putting in work now will probably show up in November. Should be interesting

The gap has definitely tightened between the two. WF has some good talent coming back as well, led by 10 of 11 starters on offense. Saw two good games between the two this year and next year should be even better.

I wonder should Heritage be considered the regional favorite in football next season. They have a Lb with multiple D1 offers and a great QB. Persons "Ath" can used at many places. Joe Kane at D.E.....

Scotland has been a LONG way from the top of 4A the last few years, and really...Hillside? Tiny little private school Country Day beat Hillside twice in a row recently...you should see what Catholic does to Country Day when they play. It's a body bag game.

That is a very good point. It took a 3A team with D1 talent to compete with 4A squads. There are few 3A teams that could survive the 4A playoffs. But for 2017, 3A will have the reigning 4A champs. That alone seriously raises the bar in 3A.

Not to mention the fact that that Southern team had one of the best QB's in the state with at least two D1 targets to throw to for most of his career.

Man I'm on your side almost always but can't jump on this time. I do believe that a couple of teams here and there, A Southern team or two for sure, would have challenged for the title, 4a as a whole has been better. Now, next year, that very well could change.
