Southeast was a down team too. But, it is useless to argue it now. In the infamous words of AggiePride: 10/31/14 at Trojan Stadium.

    I value your perspective.

Might just fool alot of people. The ones who are hoping they will be down might get your feels hurt. I know for sure the D will be better then last years team. Up is the only way to go after last year. Hey we all know 2 is getting the ball stopping him is another story. So Southeast good luck in stopping him.

    Garner dominates Southeast Raleigh, 49-14
    Nov, 2 2013

They got beat by a down Garner Team.

I agree the previous coach drove players away but they did not land in Garner (Garner has been unsuccessful recruiting our players away). You will be pleased to hear that a lot of players are transferring back because of the great things the new staff is doing. We are excited for next season.

I thought the title of this thread was 2014 Garner Football. If we are talking history, then maybe it should be a Pre 2014 Garner Football thread.

If you are looking for history to predict the future, then that is fine. I am just not that type of guy.

LBECK...you never did answer my question about what I was dreaming about.

Looks like the GNRC gonna be a five horse race, Garner East Wake SER Knightdale and Clayton.... It's possible the conference winner will not go undefeated in conference...

    Bulldawg,
I do not know names but I have a nephew who is a Trojan. The Head Coach was a driving factor of players leaving not recruiting. This happens all over and the parents have to sign off as well. My nephew has dealt with the same issue at his former high school which will remain nameless. He is a happy to be a Trojan because his talent is appreciated.
My son was part of that SER team that won a GNRC title and based on how this new staff does at SER will determine whether my youngest son will be a Dog or a Trojan.
Can't wait for the 2014 season to begin my Friday nights will be spent following my nephew. I suspect Aggie Pride conference predictions will be flipped at the 1 and 2 positions though. JMHO

How did Garner perform when Hines was injured?

First of all, I care what all of the teams in the GNRC do simply because they are our opponents. Second, I am going to especially care about Garner since they are our rival.

If you won games without Hines then I could agree that Hines isn't the whole team. Can you tell me how Garner did the games Hines was out/injured?

"Garner is a great school with a great history of academics and athletics and an award winning principal. They have a solid coaching staff and I am sure their kids have great attitudes. I am not knocking the program because it is a great measuring stick for other schools. This is just my opinion based on 2013 and 2014. They can prove me wrong."

bulldawgnation27610 Dude you should apply your attention to your team and stop caring about what Garner does. You are completely down grading everyone on the Garner football team by suggesting Hines is the whole team. In football you can't win with just one player. Someone has to snap the ball and hand the ball off and block. Last time I checked you also have to play defense which Hines didn't do much of this year. Hines is an incredible athlete, to me the best in our state at his position but he's not the whole Garner team.

If Nyheim Hines "running all over" teams is your goal, then mission accomplished. But, you still didn't win conference or play in the regional championship game.

So, while he ran all over us (and all of the teams he played against), what does your program have to show for it? Once he got hurt, it was a wrap for the Trojans. That is generally what happens to 1 dimensional teams. FACT! FACT! FACT!

Say what you want about Garner for it is said EVERY year "this will be a down year for the TROJANS" however the cream always rises to the top. FACT! I for one would love to see the GNRC be STRONG from top to bottom for it only makes our conference teams in the playoffs stronger. Looking forward to August!

im not gonna go to the extent of garner not making it in the playoffs garner is a strong program and will be for a while but there are teams right there in the greater neuse that can challenge them... take a look at last year Knightdale beat them but this year they lose 30+ seniors, East wake beat them and return the core of their team, clayton played them tough, and they played SER in the rain with SER being a pass heavy offense they took a hit to the elements and the rain didnt slow hines down at all... Garner does recruit.. there has been several phone calls to kids all around but who cares every school recruits believe it or not. My pre-season rankings as of now are 1.SER 2.Garner 3.East wake 4. Clayton 5. West Johnston 6. Knighdale 7. Harnett Central 8. Rolesville

    this is football!!

you get the ball into your best players hands as much as possible and hope they "make a play"

yes, get hines the ball 30 plus times a game! hes a big boy, he can handle it

get love the ball 30 plus a game, when it matters, but, slack off in the blowouts. hes not as durable, so watch out

we did it with quay and marcel johnson and nate harvey

    that's smart coaching!!

Your wrong about WF running the heck out of Bryce Love. Most games he had 15 carries or less. They had plenty of backs to spread the ball around to. It will be the same way this year....lot's of talent returning in the backfield That's not a prediction on whether he'll get hurt...anything can happen...it just won't be because they run him 25 times a game.

Garner Recruits players.. I know for a fact bc they have contacted kids I know. But they are not the only team that does it. When you have a booster club like Garner and that other school Rectuiting takes place. If the state or county ever did a investigation it could be trundle in Garner land.

If you want to cry about recruiting thank your former head coach for driving away good kids. As I understand you CAN'T make a kid leave if they don't want too.
I was at the whoopin SER took from Garners JV squad. Your Bulldawgs arrived with alot of barking but by the third quarter it was reduced to a whimper. The only reason I mention the JV squad(Yes JV is different than Varsity)some of these kids are the same ones moving up to Varsity. Seeing as how the margin of victory for this JV team was in the +20 point range they should offer some help this year. If you are expecting Garner to fall off you are mistaken.

Weather my son or daughter was not good enough to get a full ride is not important.

With all thats out there(grants and scholarships)a kid can still go to a college of there choice with out getting a full ride.

Put your money where your mouth is and give me a list a mile long of kids THAT PLAYED FOOTBALL AT GARNER IN THE PAST FEW YEARS THAT GOT AN OFFER TO PLAY FOOTBALL AT THE THE NEXT LEVEL.

Told the kid, come to Garner because East Wake doesn't know what to do with you....True Story..LOL....and that was on the sideline at one of Garners home games, after the pre game meal..etc..etc...

    Sounds like recruiting to me!

I agree with manrocket. Garner does not recruit. They just call kids up out of the blue to ask them if they want to transfer to Garner ("come home" I think was the exact phrase used to one of our players). Fortunately for us, we don't have any players leaving because they are loyal and believe in our program. Garner will have to look somewhere else for players because Bulldog Nation ain't having it

Keep dreaming about what? That Garner crumbled without Hines? That other teams are not as intimidated by Garner like in years past (but I will admit they are intimidated by Hines)? That Garner coaches/booster have called our kids to get them to transfer over? My thoughts that Garner will be 1 dimensional? That Garner won't win the conference or make it far in the playoffs (not past 2nd round)? That they overuse Hines and are probably going to exhaust him so he won't be very effective at the end of the season? Or am I dreaming about Garner being a great school with great tradition, great kids and good administration?

You have to be more specific.

Its not that we are talking like they won it last year.....

But Knightdale lost 30 Seniors....17 were starters

You gotta look at these teams in a vacuum, last year means NOTHING...
Garner has the best player in the GNRC, so as of today they would get my vote as the favorite.....But like I said it's EARLY

yall talk of garner like they are defending GNR champs they lost it last year and they can lose it again.. they only return 1 Offensive lineman so hopefully they dont give up so much penetration that hines has no time to work...

    Good response Larry...LOL!

I don't see anybody challenging Garner this year for conference, alot can change between now and the start of the season, but right now they have to be penciled in as the favorites....

I get tired of hearing 007 run his mouth about garner not getting kids into school I'm sorry who ever you are that you or your son was not good enough to get a full ride. Garner does great things with there kids. And it's a shame that people take shots at others because of your or your teams short comings. Garner has a list a mile long of kids playing in school.

GARNER IS GOING TO RUN THE HECK OUT OF HINES ,JUST LIKE WAKE FOREST RAN THE HECK OUT OF BRYCE LOVE.END RESULT THEY BOTH GOT HURT TOWARDS THE END OF THE YEAR.
SURE EVERYTHINGS GREAT AT GARNER, BUT THEY ARE NOT GETTING KIDS LOOKS FROM COLLEGES ANY COLLEGES BIG OR SMALL.

ONE KIDS GOING TO DAVIDSON AND I HEARD HE DID THAT ON HIS OWN AND SO DID A FEW OTHERS PLAYERS WHO ARE ATTENDING COLLEGES.

Middle Creek starts the season with Garner and then travels to EE Smith. That schedule is tough enough without ruffling any feathers before hand. :(

Nyheim Hines is Garner. I hate to say it because I don't want to minimize the other players on the team, but...

We all saw what happened the way Garner crumbled when he was out with an injury or not playing at 100%. God forbid he gets hurt again (which I pray does NOT happen because I like watching the kid play), Garner will be in trouble. The emergence of football programs at other local schools in the area have neutralized some of Garner's power. Coaches (and boosters) at Garner have been calling around trying to get kids to come to Garner (know for a fact that one of our kids has been contacted). Regardless of whether or not they "recruit," the coaches know they may not have the talent to compete week in and week out without getting some people into the school.

IMO, Garner will be 1 dimensional this year which will make it harder (not impossible) for Hines to duplicate the season he had last year. After losses to East Wake, Middle Creek, Cleveland, and Knightdale (all very good teams), I don't think people are as intimidated by Garner as they used to be. I have said it once and I will say it again, this will be the second year in a row that Garner does not win the GNR Conference Championship in football. My guess is, they will be an early round knockout in the playoffs because they will have exhausted Hines to a point he is not 100% (much like they did this year) or hurt.

Ravenrll is right. Garner is a great school with a great history of academics and athletics and an award winning principal. They have a solid coaching staff and I am sure their kids have great attitudes. I am not knocking the program because it is a great measuring stick for other schools. This is just my opinion based on 2013 and 2014. They can prove me wrong.
