Leesville Road

Leesville Road

Anybody hearing anything on Leesville Road? Who has applied? Who has the inside track? When do they interview? They usually have a lot of posters on here, but I haven't seen much. Have they lost interest?

RE: Leesville Road

I know a guy from Wayne County that applied and was basically told that if he hadn't heard anything by 5/9/14, they would be considering someone else, but if they are interested, they will contact him about an interview. As of today, he has not heard anything.

RE: Leesville Road

I would be SHOCKED if Leesville looked outside of their current staff to fill the open head coaching position. They have former head coaches on the staff as well as other coaches ready to take a head position.

I know they have to post the position but at this point I think they are only posting it to stay in compliance with district rules. The job should be given to someone already on staff. That is why your friend in Wayne County probably will not receive a call back. Continued success will be the result of an inside hire.

RE: Leesville Road

I was told that there are only two coaches left on staff who could even be considered, and that one of of them is applying and one is not. They have lost a lot of coaches over the last few years (either to become head football coaches at other schools or to because of head coaching positions in other sports at Leesville). I also heard that at least 2 former coaches applied, one of which might be surprising and another who has been mentioned on other threads on this board. Unlke cap8fan, I wouldn't be shocked if they go outside the current staff. I would not even be shocked if they went outside the Leesville family altogether--which could come back to bite them if the new hire is not successful.

RE: Leesville Road

Its funny to me that Smothers leaves as soon as Braxton does. Say what you want he knows that Braxton made him look like a better coach than what he truly was.

RE: Leesville Road

Totally disagree about smothers. The Berrios boys make any coach look smarter. As for the hire, I don't know why cap8 thinks it "SHOULD" be given to a current staff guy. There could be and most likely are better candidates and fits for the job that are outsiders. Hire the best guy that you interview. Lots of people out there with much better records and more experience than who is currently there. Don't look for anyone in wayne county to get a north Raleigh job. Not gonna happen. If the new principal is on board with keeping the winning tradition then you can look for the old OC to return. If he is not then look for the pride to fall backwards.

RE: Leesville Road

Coach Smothers had his reasons for leaving (maybe becoming an AD?)...and there will be a thorough and fair screening for the HC position...and Berrios was a great player, but he was not the entire team...a lot of former LRHS players are playing at the next level and if you ask Braxton I'm sure he'd tell you he didn't do anything by himself - he's humble that way and was not trying to make the coach look good - FKNFLENFOI probably hasn't watched too much LRHS football...I'd like to see a stable coaching staff at Leesville...it does make a big difference...but you can't denigrate coaches for going elsewhere to chase their dreams as well

Leesville Road

Leesville will get a quality head coach and the staff will be filled with quality assistants...the young men who play deserve nothing less...

RE: Leesville Road

isnt there a LR grad coaching at a high profile job in Cumberland Co?

RE: Leesville Road

VillePride

Might be...he may have played in the NFL...

RE: Leesville Road

For anyone who has watched this very closely, this will likely prove to have been in the works for quite a while and masterfully handled by the AD
