Mercy rule for Football

Mercy rule for Football

I don't like it! I would be okay with letting the Coaches decide to use a running clock or even call the game early if both sides agree. HOWEVER, this should not be mandated. Alot of games that are 42 to 0 at halftime end up being 42 to 14 or 55 to 21 etc by the end. The losing team will usually leave the starters in longer to have some success and find some things that work both offensively and defensively. Kids that don't play often will be on the field longer in a blowout game and Mom and Dad will be thrilled. It is hard for me to believe that the majority of the Coaches agreed to this unless the politics of it overwhelmed them. These are scary times we are living in and people will eventually be afraid to speak out if their opinions or beliefs dont align with those in power!!

Agreed! Mercy rules teach these kids to quit when times get hard and in the real world they can't do that. I personally dislike the idea of mercy rules in any sports. I understand that some teams are more talented than others but is that not what you spend weeks practicing for? Ways to keep blowouts from happening? Blowouts are apart of the game and WILL occur. If these kids make it to the next level they won't be able to quit in games were there school is down 42 or worst. Overall poor decision made.

Mercy aka little johnny rule.

RE: Mercy rule for Football

Why is are country in so many arenas out making rules that are already governed by common sense. Coaches and officials already manage these situations with class in most instances. But we treat everything like spilt coffee.

RE: Mercy rule for Football

Would have been helpful in the last couple 4AA title games.

RE: Mercy rule for Football

Title game mercy, get real that's definitely not the time to use a mercy rule.

RE: Mercy rule for Football

It was a joke because of the competition coming out of the East 4AA....:)

RE: Mercy rule for Football

Nyheim Hines just lost 1,000 yards and 10 TD's next year...

RE: Mercy rule for Football

It was tongue and cheek , however there were at least 5 or 6 guys on the board complaining about running up the score in the MC- Wake game last year. If Wake would have just said " We quit" at half time you all could have avoided the running up the score problem.

RE: Mercy rule for Football

What a great life lesson Coach Lucas could have taught his players. Losing isn't the worst thing in the world even when its a blow out, quitting or never trying are. So keep all the we will quit when things don't go our way out west. We will keep teaching our kids in the east the value of continuing to fight to the finish no matter the level of adversity.

RE: Mercy rule for Football

Really not fair to the winning teams 2nd and 3rd string kids that work hard all week.
