In Durham you can transfer to any school you want ,so he may be anywhere,You have Kids in Riverside,Jordan,Person,Southern,Northern all at Hillside. the Hornets have a makeup of every district in Durham, the same with Southern , If Hillside and Southern feed from there District only, they would both be subpar teams. No kid loyalty in Durham and Larry McDonald lets the open air recruiting go on,thats why Raleigh Football is more balanced.

Kmagnusson, That would be correct about my age. However, neither me or my Queen are trying to rush things. We're in our planning stage and already got my hommies Tyler and Redandblack for the planning of the bachelor party ;-). Since we will be getting married in New Bern. GO BEARS!

Thx Pick6 for the clarification. I thought if you were including Mallard Creek, Butler, Richmond and company that was a mighty big statement. On the 4A sub-classification you may be right. Probably could make the same statement about Orange at 3AA. However, when it comes to the playoffs, you better have some offensive balance. Something my old coach, Kenny Browning found out the hard way.

Boy! All the post and all the misguided comments. I'm a Hillside Alum from the class of 85. We didn't have good teams then but we wasn't bottom of the Pac 6 either. And we did beat Southern some of the games during my tenure and I have been at 98% of all the Hillside games since. Home and away games. And Hillside was tough to beat back when King was the quarterback at Hillside. They made playoff runs. So to say Hillside was only good since 09 is false. They just got better. But enough about that nonsense. Hillside will be tough to beat this year. They're poised to do some things and the kids are stocked and still have attitude for the game.

Stilley- Definitely only referring to 4A. Mraau95 is correct, the only Charlotte area 4A schools that were in the playoffs last year were Rocky River and Charlotte Catholic.

@stilly568 I think in the 5 they couldn't run the ball on rocky river and catholic are included I believe they are the only 4A classified schools out of mecklenburg county I believe everyone else is 4AA

Pick 6, hope you are doing well? I respect your views on local high school football and feel you opinions are usually balanced. When you say Hillside would beat 65 of the 70 4A schools by running the ball only, are you including the 4A schools in the Charlotte area? That is a pretty bold statement if you are including all schools in the 4A classification. Maybe I misunderstood you.

Dudley won't have anything this year, new bern will be ok Scotland is the only thing in your way of a state title and they ain't goin down easy...hillside has some studs on that oline so naz will have all the time in the world to throw

I think Krah has all of the physicial tools to be great at RB. It all depends on how much work he has put in over the summer. Durability, and added weight will be key. His burst and speed in the hole reminds me of Keith Marshall. I also like 25 at RB, i can't remember his name, but he is a really good back as well. The key to the Hornets making a championship run will be the accuracy of Niles. Out of the 70+ 4A schools in the state of North Carolina, Hillside can run the ball the entire game and beat 65 of those schools, but to beat Scotland, Dudley, New Bern, and a few others, Niles will have to move the chains with his arm, to give the Hornet offense some balance. Hillside will always be loaded at WR, and like i mentioned before the offense line will be one of the best in the state.

Its not a kid at Southern High School who can say they played in a Varsity game in which Southern beat Hillside. When was the last time Hillside lost a game in Durham County?

You REALLY need to get your math together. I mean REEEEEAAALLY. Since 2004, Hillside has a 6-5 record against Southern. That's over the last 10 years which includes 11 games (including HHS playoff win).

oh yeah, don't even attempt to compare southern to the northern durham high powerhouse program from back in the day. Lil fella, You are delusional. lmao

@bullcityvillage lmfao I was being funny but never the less hillside wasn't relevant in football till 09 ...so in a nutshell you've only had a winning program for 6 years....6 years.....6 years.....6 years.....how old is hillside again??? As old as that school is you've only had 6 modern day winning seasons you've been northern and southern's jv since the 90s lol. The game this year won't even be close southern wins by at least 3 scores

-Sentence mentioned and written will not be retracted and will restate at will. Go research Scotland Co. football

-Hillside beat an undefeated team in the eastern final. The state championship was just a coronation. Your former coach was obsessed with winning the states ever since. He saw it was possible for a squad from Bull City. and for that motivation, we say "you're welcome"

-Hillside has beaten Southern in a bad year. So your comment about how long HHS been good is irrelevant. If Hillside lost every game to southern in the 90s AND the even 2000s, that would be about 20 games. Soooooooooo, 100 games behind is just ignorant.

Oh well, done and done. Way too early for this. August awaits...

  • Mraau95 May 11, 2014

w@bullcityvillage Would hillside being 100 games behind in the series be that far fetched?? Seriously how long do you think yall have been good in football? I was in high school early 2000s and hillside was trash then and im sure late 90s wasnt that much different. Dont mention yourselves and scotland in the same sentence again they actually beat a team above .500 in states lol.

He gotta do it err year for dudes like you who come up on here blurting out stupid numbers. And you get up here and type it TWICE!!!! Like its gonna make it true !!!!!!!! LMAO

Aye yo man, On your best year EVER !!! You lost to Hillside!!!! And to Scotland in a LAUGHER!!!! Both 4A Playoff teams !!!! And you think you can get up and beat your chest at Hillside!?!?!?! Thats a clown move.

I think hillside pretty much just erased everything that happen before the 09 season lol especially if someone came out of mouth and said southern was hillside littler brother .... Yes hillside has won the last 4 but like I said they are about 100 behind and will be playing catch up for as long as that school is in exesitance

  • dbcity2004 May 8, 2014

First and foremost the reason we Spartan fans jumped on this thread is because someone stated that our starting RB was coming to Hillside next year after being recruited by their staff due to not having a RB this upcoming season. That is a flat out lie besides why would he leave the top offense in the State and Coach Creecy who has become a great great OC? Secondly Southern is little brother to Hillside? Lol! Yes you have won 4 straight but all of the games pretty much have been close decided in the final minutes and overall record wise no other team other than Garner has won more than the Souljahs the last 15 years Hillside isn't even close. Third no one kicked us out of the PAC-6 winning that league isn't saying much at all we had to go to 3AA due to a drop in enrollment although we still play top 4A teams including Hillside and the mighty Big 8 conference speaks for itself it's one of the best leagues in the State regardless of classification. And like fballislife stated a State Championship is a State Championship period. We went through a gauntlet the whole season including the Playoffs to win it all and beat one of the top programs in the State in the title game. Don't hate justgive respect where it's due Southern Durham Football is back on top of it's game better than ever. And lastly for the outsiders who are not Hillside and Southern fans in the area who has won State titles recently? Check the records them Bull City Ballers don't play baby you got to go back to 1987 when Garner won the title that was the last Wake County team to do so and another Durham team Northern won it all in 1993. I come with facts bottom line.

Runner up league? WF has played in 2 state championship games since 2010 and beat Southern when they played. So, what's your point?

Southern would not have won the 4A Championship. They barely won 3AA. With that being said, Southern is a solid program. Fun to watch.

  • FballisLife May 8, 2014

@manny The Pac6? lmao come on man. Since Southern left the PAC6 the conference has been straight garbage, need to focus on getting out of the 1st round playoffs. The whole SD going down to 3AA talk is pointless. There are alot of 3A teams that will beat alot of 4A teams. @bullcityvillage you say your beloved Hornets ran SD out of the PAC6 to get a #1 seed in the playoffs, soo why didnt Hillside get a #1 seed? Matter of fact didnt yall lose in the 1st round? AGAIN? @cap8fan The drop to 3AA is because of the attendance in the school, dont matter the division. A state championship is a state championship.

  • Mraau95 May 8, 2014
    Sports Legend

@bullcityvillage ummmmm y'all didn't start beating southern till 2010 lmfao so again(clapping my hands) y'all are what like 100 games behind in the series catch up....@cap8fan u know hillside ppl try and use that same argument when it comes southern's state title every time but I guess 2010 was so long ago that hillside ppl forget that Davie County was under .500 so ok southern won 3AA against a crest team who was ranked in the ap poll and hillside beat a davie team that shouldn't have even been in the playoffs....your turn... But it says cap8 fan and your whole conference is pretty much just a runner up league ...runner ups on football and runner ups in basketball so if the conversation doesn't have anything to do with the regular season or regionals stay out of a state championship conversation lol

@mraau95 Jalen is just a freshmen a rising soph, and he has a better arm than most of upperclass QBs in the area. There is no ifs, he will get better. He will definitely get some game time reps to get him prepared to take over when Kendall leaves. If he wants to play basketball then so be it. He is young and have alot of time to grow and mature. Bottom line, We ready to get this season started. We hungry for another.

@mraau95 Every time there was a blowout the backups would go in, not just in the QB position. Also when you are blowing a team out coaches want to keep the clock running. Southern will/does have a legit backup, a rising soph who is about 6'1 and also plays baseball. There are some good coaches at SD who believes in developing boys to young men on and off the field.

@fballislife I think when he said the backup should have gotten in more is in reference to the many blowout games....and even ok those games when Greg did get in they ran a read the ball never really went in the air while he got in. Knock on wood I pray Kendal doesn't get hurt but in the event he does southern doesn't have a legit backup with a strong enough arm to run the offense. I'm interested to see how southern will do next year with an even tougher non conference schedule

  • FballisLife May 6, 2014

been away for a while but this post caught my attention. @hesaidit there is a difference between coaches and volunteers. At southern we have a good number of coaches and a handful of volunteers. We all believe into what Coach jones was teaching to players and coaches, being a family. That is the reason why you will call us "STATE CHAMPS". Of course JV players dont get as much attention as varsity thats normal, but the JV players do get coached up, teach, whatever you want to call it. Yes the the backup QB was decent but why or who on earth would play him over the best QB in the state. The backup got in when he needed to. Every year SD has put numerous kids into college. Dont talk down on a program because its a rivalry school, instead talk about how good the football programs are doing for the city.

  • dbcity2004 May 4, 2014
    Sports Legend

hesaidit the only thing that I would even entertain in your posts is the number of coaches Southern has. Now 20 plus man you trippin its not that many lol but I know what you mean. In regards to the JV I would definitely say that this past year was not a good year although several guys who would normally play JV ended up playing Varsity. Other than that the previous few years our JV has been very good winning conference championships. Back to the topic of coaching I can't deny I was critical of them in the past but there is no doubt about it that the clinics and seminars the coaches went to definitely paid off. Last year's Southern team overall was the most disciplined team in the Coach Jones Era definitely since his first year at Southern. Penalties were down, turnovers were down all across the board and our QB rarely got touched. That is a credit to the staff and to the Players for buying in. Can't say the same about other programs who were loaded with talent last year but underachieved big time. As far as grades especially with Bass the kid has over a 4.0 GPA. Heck we have several kids with 4.0 GPAS and a bunch more over 3.0 THAT'S A FACT so you know the coaches, teachers along with their parents are stressing academics. The kids put in work on and off the field bottom line. Also in regards to stars again do your research we had several other kids who are going to be playing college football next year who were not stars and also excelled in the classroom as well. Now in regards to the QB situation I agree 100% we need to give the back up more reps especially this year since it's Kendall's final season.

  • Mraau95 May 4, 2014
    Sports Legend

@hesaidit what good players other than bass do u know that are leaving? Kendal is staying, will is staying, Boyd is staying, Tillman is staying, only good players leaving are graduates who have exhausted there eligibility lol plus guys have transferred in. As far as the coaches working with jv I agree and disagree because the coaches go to the jv games but they have there own squad to worry about during practice that's why u have jv coaches . I do agree with the backup qb getting more reps because u never know what will happen and who has to get thrown into what and u don't want an unprepared qb.

  • hesaidit May 3, 2014
    Bench Warmer

And as far as I know Bass is planning on bouncing. His parents recognize the need to get away from that place. Even though Jones is gone... a lot of the other BS coaches that would rather be peers than adults to the kids are still there. My understanding is that a lot of good players will not be back.

  • hesaidit May 3, 2014
    Bench Warmer

dbcity2004, I know good and well that you didn't say that Southern pays attention to their kids. If what that group of coaches calls paying attention, the sky is falling. You pay attention to the players that you consider stars. You don't coach up, teach or even care about your JV players that really need development. 20+ coaches and you only have 1 and a half that work with JV on a daily basis. THAT'S CRAZY!!! The backups don't get real reps. The back up QB you had last year has a good arm and great size but it was all about your so called star. SO when he got in the game, you just ran the ball.

When you all realize how to run a program and be there for the kids, start talking. Just because you have a couple of kids going to play D1 ball, don't get to excited. Plus, your RB will have to go to prep school I bet. But class work isn't high on your list either.
