In the east, outside the coastal 3a teams, I think Western Alamance, Eastern Wayne (only losses were to New Bern and Rose, beat Conley), Northwood could be tough. In the west Concord is rolling again, South Ponit is always good and have dropped down from 3AA this year.

Better not sleep on anyone though. Get past Topsail first.

Besides having one of the all-time greatest names for a football coach, Jim Bob just eats, drinks and sleeps football. He pours his heart into it and kids respond. He'll win with or without talent but with the talent he's had these last few years in Havelock, he wins state championships.

Would love to see a rematch of the 1975 state championship game between Havelock and Pisgah...this time the Rams beat the living daylights out of Pisgah and erase the memory of that bitter, poorly officiated, first matchup.

Western Alamance could give Havelock some trouble. WA always fields a ton of players, both in numbers and size. Other than that, it will take a supreme effort from any of the other seeds to unseat the Rams from collecting another Eastern 3A Championship.

Several teams look good on paper in the western part of the bracket, thinking the mountain teams like Pisgah and Tuscola might be the darkhorse contenders who battle compete for the top of that bracket.

Yes Jim Bob Bryant is an excellent coach - he has been a head coach for 11 years and has 8 conference championships and 3 second place finishes. Havelock had a bad 4 year stretch after Wilbur Sasser retired after 25 years and 207 wins until Coach Bryant was hired from Greene Central in 2008.

I ran into a retired Marine from Havelock the other day & we had a lengthy discussion about their program. I was told they were fortunate to land an outstanding coach and, while they obviously have talented players, their coach really knows his stuff. Great things happen when great coaches have talented players & they should be the fav. until somebody proves they can beat 'em.

42 - 1 over the last 3 years is amazing. Add New Bern to the mix & Craven County football is 2nd to none. Nice programs down that way. Rather see them win than teams from the West.

I don't really see anybody from the East stopping the Rams from at least getting to the championship game. I feel for the team that gets West Craven in the first round.

Comes back from 7-6 halftime deficit against a tough West Craven team to win 21-7

West Craven could be a tough out in 3A - their losses are to 4a playoff teams Conley, New Bern and 3a playoff teams Havelock and Swansboro

Havelock is now 42-1 over the last 3 years and trying for the 3peat this year with 2 Eastern finals appearances the 2 years prior to that. Nice 5 year run for HHS
