Top Academic and Athletic HS in Wake County?

Love the site. Looking for opinions from athletic minded NC residents. Military family moving from AL to Wake County. Can move any where within county. Looking for best combination of academics and athletics for my children. Sons play football, basketball and baseball. Daughters play soccer and basketball. Opinions? Why?

I'm a biased parent, granted, but really this one's indisputable. Green Hope has dominated the Wachovia Cup (all around athletic excellence) 3 years running and is odds on to make it 4 this year. They are also at the very top of the academic performance ratings, always rated an Honor School of Distinction or whatever the title is. Their one big weakness has been a bad football program, but this year they made the state playoffs and have shown marked improvement under a new coach. They excel in the other sports you listed.

Other schools who rank high in the Wachovia Cup are Apex, Broughton, Wakefield and Millbrook.

As far as academic/athletic combos, I've lived here a long time (graduated from Sanderson) and I'd toss out Leesville/Wakefield/Apex/Broughton as schools worth a look. Panther Creek is new and nice as well. But I feel sort of bad saying all this because the other schools are just fine for the most part.

Come purchase my house directly across the street from Middle Creek High School. MC has excellent academics and sport programs. My house is 3400 sq feet of living area. Four bedrooms, large playroom, 2 story family room and 2 story entry foyer. All 3 bathrooms are full bathrooms and all three have just been remodeled. Culdesac location with over an acre of land in a nice neighborhood. I am the first and only owner of this property. I haven't put it on the market yet so you can buy directly from me and save the realtor commission.

green hope has top boys bball, girls bball and theyre football team is getting back on track. Panther Creek was ranked in the top 10 for academics but they are rebuilding their football program.

And on top of that the green hope/ panther creek area is beautiful, a lot of conveinience and many houses opening up in the area.

Conference Champ Football, Conference Champ and defending STATE CHAMPION Baseball and Conference Champ Basketball. CASE CLOSED!!!!! P.S. Middle Creek was opened about 11 years ago, it is a beautiful new school. MC fielded a JV team only it's first year in football but the next 10 years it was Conference Champ in Football 6 TIMES, conference Champ Basketball 5 times and not sure how many times in baseball, softball etc. Both of my children graduated from there and college!! I am empty nester now!

Garner is excellent in football and basketball and as far as I know very competitive in all sports. They are a magnet school so the academics should be good. The problem is you may not want to live there. Drive around town and decide for yourself. Drop by the Garner Walmart any time after 9pm and you'll think you walked into the bar scene from the original Star Wars.

I think you should check it out. There are some very nice places in Garner as well. Houses are also going at a good price as well.

magnusson...Really don't appreciate your snide little remarks about Garner. yes, we do have great athletic programs and we have a great magnet program. Your slam about not wanting to live here is really uncalled for..Middle Creek area is newer but not necessarily better. We have many neighborhoods that compare...If you are thinking about downsizing , we might even find a place for you but then you would have to pull for Garner.. leave an app at the town hall and we will see if we can find somewhere you'll fit ..By the way that Wal Mart is in Raleigh, not Garner.. Geography lessons available..

Wake county schools are all quality standards in academics and sports, you cant go wrong with whatever you decide.
