Why all the coaching changes?

Why all the coaching changes?

Down goes another good football coach! Wishing the best to Caoch Martin at Broughton. It's a shame that so many good men are giving up on head coaching. I'm all for change but it seems that all the expectations and added responsibilities are taking their toll. Hope administrators and parents in Wake county and surrounding counties are taking notice.

RE: Why all the coaching changes?

I imagine dwindling support from the top down. Probably won't be resolved until budget funding increases. More teaching positions, more opportunities to fill coaching vacancies with quality staff.

RE: Why all the coaching changes?

It's probably pretty tough to get and keep a good coach in the triangle area with the limited salary they get. I just don't see how they can survive at all in the relatively high cost triangle area on what they make. That's probably a big reason why good coaches stay longer at more rural area schools - cost of living.

RE: Why all the coaching changes?

I am not sure it is all about the salary. Wasn't the Garner coach here for many seasons? The state averages over 75 coaching changes every year out of 320 or so schools. I would think Wake County holds close to the state average in coaching turnover.

RE: Why all the coaching changes?

Coaching supplements in Wake aren't good, but teacher salary is, so a coach may not make more by moving to a rural area. Some areas do provide 11 and 12 month contracts, and that could be an incentive.

RE: Why all the coaching changes?

Other than Coach Ragland leaving West Johnston for Fairmont, have there been many Triangle coaches who went to other areas? It seems most openings in this area have come from retirement or coaches just giving up being a head coach.

RE: Why all the coaching changes?

Anymore changes coming?

RE: Why all the coaching changes?

Coaching is a passion first deal ,unfortunately passion does not pay the bills and put food on the table.i agree a lot of coaches do retire however the current state of this economy is still in shambles.i don't mean to get political on that last statement but that is a reality.

RE: Why all the coaching changes?

Most high school assistants make around $2000.00 extra a year to coach. That is based on a 4-5 month schedule. As everyone knows high school football is 12 month deal these days and if you add it up that is not a lot of money. They have families to provide for like everyone else and if a new opportunity comes up where they can add some dollars to the bank account then they need to take advantage of that. Head coaches do the same thing. Just ask the Cleveland coach and his staff. There are very very few coaches out there like Nelson Smith and Gary Fowler. I think West Johnson has a good one now in Jimmy Williams and I believe he will stay as long as they will let him.
