Do you think Garner will announce this week?

Dont think youre going to see the Philosophy change too much at Garner.

    1. As pointed out above, there are rules for 8-quarter participation by freshmen and sophomores.
    2. Juniors can move from week to week, but can not 8-quarter.
    3. Both are within the rules, so why does anyone care?
    4. Anyone who puts too much stock in JV is fooling themselves. Some teams have lots of sophs on varsity. The coaching is often different. The game is even different at that level. There are some programs who have a lot of success on Thursday night and it doesn't translate to Friday.

Fact is, Knightdale is full of talanted players. Could argue that Knightdale has just as much talent if not more talent then Garner and Clayton. But here is the kicker. Until Knightdale Football changes its Football Philosophy, and its atmosphere around its Football Program, Knightdale will never dethrown a Garner. Talent can only take you so far...Hence Knightdale getting whooped twice by Clayton last season and Garner Whooping Knightdale last season as well. Garner and Clayton both have a great Football Philosophy (With new coaches this year we will see)...Knihghtdale just has a lot of Talented players right now....BOTTOM LINE...

Didn't mean to hit a nerve with the JV comment, guys - was only half-serious at best. Doesn't really matter, see the same talk year after year about Knightdale or SERHS supplanting Garner at the top. Year after year, it doesn;t happen. So until that time, I'll ride with the Trojans every single time!!!

GT great points but don't forget that you also are required to document(8-quarter Pre-Participation Form) the movement of players from JV and Varsity and their movement cannot be done without being examined and signed off by a MD, LAT, or PA. The maximum is 8 quarters for a jv player at the varsity level at which time the school has to declare that the player is either JV or Varsity. That form must be kept on file with the school and with the conference president.

Technically, this is designed for the emergency use of stabilizing rosters that are ravaged by injury or as an assessment to determine if the player in question is both physically and mentally ready for participation at the varsity level. It has grown into a way of rewarding qualified jv players at the end of their season by allowing their "call up" to the varsity in time for end of season and possible playoff games. Seeing first hand this tool allowed my school to rest players during practice that were "nicked up or dinged" so they could be ready game night while giving inexperienced players valuable reps in a varsity practice.

The only other reason a player on varsity would be moved down would likely be due their inability to earn adequate playing time. Therefore, the staff may be inclined to give game experience to fringe or marginal players that need that exposure in a game setting to improve. If an option or choice of game is available, it would make sense to select a game against a higher skilled opponent. In other words, I would be appreciative that my rival or opponent considers my team a worthy challenge. That is just an opinion or viewpoint.

GT, I hope this helps you explain to others that are concerned that there is more to moving players than just giving a command or the motives are intent only for the purpose of beating a specific opponent rather than player improvement.

Good Luck Folks and keep supporting high school athletics.

Say what you want to about GT's JV roster and the movement of players up and down. I KNOW for a fact for I do the PA for GT football (both JV and Varsity)and I know whether the players are varsity or JV.

I know for a fact you are wrong about that game in 2012. Waggle Right the difference between the two games were Garner had key players hurt the 1st time the played and had them back the second half. It is very easy to tell what teams move players down to play jv games just look at most teams helmets. Knightdale Varisty players have Ks on theirs and JVs don't. Clayton has the Cs on the varisty and JV don't. Southeast has the Ss and JVs don't. I think its just hurts the overall program when young players are not allowed to play in these big game just so teams say they were able to bet this team or that team.

As long as the player has not maxed out his quarters there is nothing with it by the way.

@GT, you are incorrect. In 2012 when Clayton's JV came to your house they whipped you all in the first half before the storm rained them out. 4 weeks later Clayton comes back to town with a depleted team that was basically robbed by the Varisty and they ended up losing that game. Garner had quite a few young men that came down from Varsity to play them. Now they may have been Sophmores or Juniors, but the point is they did move them down. Every team does it at some point. Whether it be Garner, Knightdale, SER or Clayton, they all do it some point.

In regards to moving players around, all teams probably dress some JV guys for emergency situations. I.e, jv kicker probably dresses for Friday games in some instances, mayber even jv QB for emergencies as 3rd strigner. You guys do realize their are rules in place to prevent and safeguard this exact issue. As for Kdale receiver he also is on Varsity basketball team and the Clayton game was his first Varsity game and the JV season ended on that previous Thursday night, given his performance against Clayton he probably should have been on the Varsity the whole time but thats a different story, hell he led Kdale in receiveng on the year by playing only 2 Varsity games, figure that.

You need to get your facts straight about GT pal. I know for a fact that GT does not move varsity players down to play ANYBODY!!! Could care less what other teams do with regards to player movement but to say GT moves players up and down is INCORRECT!

I am pretty sure that Knightdale moved Varsity players down this past year to play Clayton in the JV game that was played at Knightdale. The tall receiver that scored on Friday night also played in the game on Thursday night just to name one.

actually Knightdale didn't have 1 Junior on that team....they were led by Sophmores Malone and Harvey....the Johnson Brothers were playing on Varsity....so actually Knightdale won that game with only two of the best players in the sophmore class...

And for the record Knightdale doesn't move Varsity players down for opponents, haven't seen Senseney do that since he got here....But Garner that's a different story.

I was an asst coach at Knightdale and we never have played seniors on JV. If we did play any juniors it was 1-3 and they did not have any playing time on Friday night.

Just a note, Rolesville won't have a varsity football team, just junior varsity next season. Varsity will start in 2014.

Not even a conversation until somebody shows they can dethrone Garner, new coach notwithstanding. And btw Capital, you're partially right - the Knightdale Seniors did beat Garner in 10th grade - the Seniors from the Class of 2011 who moved down to play the JV team. :)

can't disagree too much....I'm just not sure if Clayton can keep it up with the loss of all those Seniors, and a new coach....

    Knightdale
    Garner
    SER

    Clayton

    Harnett Rolesville

This Knightdale senior class beat Garner in 10th grade @Garner, for what it's worth....

If I'm not mistaken the conference will have a different look next year...not sure who's dropping out...or who's coming but I think it is 1 to 2 schools...

    Garner
    Knightdale
    East Wake
    Clayton
    SER
    WJ
HC That's how I would pick 'em. Garner and Knightdale should be way ahead of the rest of the field. East Wake can't afford to lose any of the returning players to be picked that high. Clayton will be talented. SER talent level seems to be slipping. WJ and HC can compete with anyone except the top 2.

  • kmagnusson Jan 10, 2013

To beat Garner you must have a physical defense to make them one dimensional, a balanced offensive attack, control the time of possession to your advantage, put constant pressure on their QB, and win the turnover battle. EASY!!! Or maybe not.

The easy way would be to schedule the game for 7:30 but actually start it at 5pm before they get off the bus!

with all these coaching changes happening this off season.....Knightdale has to be looked at as the favorites to win conference going in, not only is the coaching staff in tact, they also return the most all conference selections from last year season, along with the OPOY.
