    Lbeck,

Does Coach Leach not teach weightlifting anymore? He used to teach weighlifting. Just wondering if he was who you were refering to about a teaching position.

Yes and he is a good person and coach that would fit perfect under Coach Leach if he is indeed the headman @ Garner. Along with the other great staff that works so well and we are so very blessed to have.

Coach AB would then be back at his alma mater.

I wish waggle right and yes I think Coach Leach would keep the winning sprit @ Garner!

Leach will make a good head coach for Garner. Does anyone think AB will now leave Clayton and head to Garner?

well for one theres not a teaching position open at Garner right now.plus they were waiting on what TOB was going to do.

Correct, Coach Leach will be the new head man at Garner. This comes as no surprise...but it is interesting that it has taken so long to announce

Leach would be a great choice! probably the smoothest transition possible. lets hope it is true.

well one thing for sure the next coach will not be coming from the 40/42 area.

Eveyone in Garner says it will be defensive coordinator Coach Leach. Announcement may come next week. I am sure you know why he sounds paranoid but I think there is little truth in that.

Exactly why. blue5cardinal sounds paranoid. any word yet cantbustem?

We shall not judge those except on performance. The decision is made and whether you agree or disagree in both the selection and the process do not judge unless you are in it. Seeing the school play a couple of times last year there is talent and I believe if the new coach comes in and plays around his talent success will follow. I think the pipeline has been pretty well groomed as well because I believe the JV squad has done well the last few years. It might take a little while because of massive change but buy in community, buy in.

cantbustem, cant agree more. Hopefully those that have an axe to grind for some reason will step aside or not involve themselves in making this personal even when they do not have children involved.

Talking with folks in the community, the story is that JW pulled his name from consideration shortly after christmas.I guess he knew the job at WJ was going to come open. As for the new coach, I think we should all give him a chance and be positive.

I have heard that Clayton has made the recommendation and is waiting for board approval. Also heard that garner has not interviewed anyone yet which makes me think internal.

I agree that Coach Williams was a great choice for the Wildcats moving forward.I know that he has experienced success at other schools he has coached at. It shows that they are committed to putting a quality coach in place quickly to provide stability for the players and parents. The same can't be said about Clayton. If the parents and administration get behind him and be patient, I think the program will become very competitive in the years to come. I believe Garner will hire from within as well and as for Clayton, the saga continues.

Any word on the Clayton Job? Garner JOB other than talk?

  • waggle right Jan 13, 2013
    Sports Legend

Coach Williams will do an excellent job for the Wildcats. As for the Clayton situation, it could get bad. Clayton started finally got the act together last year. This incoming head coach could fragment that. Again, my feelings are that the principal has made the wrong decision in his choice.

The WJHS parents are very excited to have Coach Williams as our head football coach. We think that he is what is needed in this position. We have had problems with our coaching staff in the past but, currently our AD is working very hard to correct those problems.

Still could be guy from the East. Wait for the dust to settle then HELLO here is our new coach. After that either they start from scratch or look to the current staff like WJ.

randy- i absolutely agree people change. however if someone is to be hired as a teacher/coach, there comes a moral and ethical level of expectation. if that expectation is violated, they have no business returning to the "scene of the crime"...so to speak. i do not mean to infer thata crime was committed. just using this saying. IF and I mean a BIG IF the hire is the same former assistant who use to teach at the school and headed east, i would be very shocked and surprised. this is IMO which i am entitled to have on this forum. in terms of x's and o's i am not sitting in the stands and questioning anyone. GF ran the offense he was comfortable running. its his program and he gets paid to run it his way. the new coach will come in and do the same thing and people will question him too. no different than people question nil coaches on sunday. you state the principal may have a different opinion. that is true. he was hired to run the school. hiring a replacement will be his decision and people will question it regardless of who he decides to hire.

  • randythorntonv3 Jan 10, 2013

Some of you make me laugh. You sound like the guys who sit in the stands and question every move by the coach. You always think you know more than everyone else.

Well, in this case, seems the principal of Clayton High School has a different opinion. Kind of like Gary never seemed to pass enough for your tastes or did things diffently than all of you experts thought.

And 1975, so people never change? Clayton is a much different community than it was 15 years ago. And the kids who would be playing for this person and the parents of the students have no idea what you are talking about unless of course some folks will hold a grudge and spread rumors or bring up the past because they arent happy with the decision. The kids who will be playing football were 1, 2 and 3 years old at the time of this supposed incident.

It should have no bearing on what happnes now.

  • 1975musty Jan 9, 2013

absolutely there was an incident 15 years ago where a coach/teacher was "ushered" out of town. Yes he got a HC job. Coach at South got "ushered" out a while back and he ends up at Lumberton. Ushered out for different reasons. Nonetheless would be shocked to see this one back in town. Lots of people have GOOD memories of things and won't let it be forgotten if he returns.

I agree with cantbustem. An agreement should have been made before Fowler announced his retirement and Roach should have been named the head coach right after that announcement. I am not sure what political card is being played there in Clayton with the principal and the current candidate, but there is definitiely one being played out in my opinion. @cover2.......your not going to be able to fool everyone with you cover up post, too many people already know the real deal of what happened.

  • cantbustem Jan 9, 2013
    Sports Legend

I agree with 72. Coach Roach is a quality candidate and should have already been named the coach. It appears that longevity and loyalty have no merit in this process. Spent 15 years under Fowler but I guess that was all for not.

Not sure where u guys are getting your info, but i have known the guy rumored for clayton for more than 20 years. He has never "left town" - been in the clayton area since 1980s. Left CHS for HC opportunity and been very successful (think he knew Fowler wasn't going anywhere for a while). Still lives here with his family, btw.

I agree with a post on another thread-that sometimes it isn't about the school or the job. Sometimes it is about the coach and what is best for his family. Maybe that is why some of these coaches are going elsewhere? Just a thought.

West Johnston is all about the band. Not athletics. And I am not bashing the band either. LOL

  • randythorntonv3 Jan 9, 2013

cant, seems like something is going on at West with the athletics. Football and basketball are pretty bad and their best pitcher left for Cleveland. With him they would have been favored to repeat as conf champs.

And now the FB coach leaves after only a few years. Wonder what is going on?

  • cantbustem Jan 9, 2013

Strongside, I looked up the guy who I heard was the potential coach and it mentioned nothing of a JOCO relationship. Maybe it is a different guy than we heard.
