You can all say what you will, Coach Rimpf has already done 2 things this year that Coach Bailey never did. 1) after 8 or 9 tries, Jack Britt went to Richmond County and beat the Raiders; 2) after 3 tries and 2 years back to back, Jack Britt went to Garner and beat them... 3) this is the 2nd time Jack Britt and Butler will meet in the State Championship... I'm thinking trifecta...

    Go Bucs!

To answer your question kmag, I would guess the same Garner coaches that came up with the game plans that resulted in 76 and 56 points the previous two games. Coaches can't draw up the play AND catch the pass.

The best coaches usually have the best players. That being said, talent alone will not win championships. Talent plus good coaching does. Any team that makes it this far has a coach that at a bare minimum knows how to stay out of his own way and let his players play. Rimpf came into a high pressure, "state title or bust" environment and produced. Just hope he realizes a lot of great coaches can go a whole career and not get where he is this week. Congrats and best of luck to him...

Prior to Bailey leaving, they were the favorite along with Leesville and Garner. Once they lost 2 games, and finished second in their conference...people wrote Britt off. Been an even flow kind of year.

You make it sound like Rimph had nothing to do with Britt's success this year. I think where they are at (in the state championship), with all of the expectations put on them before the season, say's a lot about the job the coaching staff did this year in guiding the kids through the pressure. A big part of that was the job done by the coaching staff to keep the kids heads on straight when they were struggling during the regular season.

Whoever did the game plan for Garner did a good job...8 points...Garner would have scored more against Butler albeit in a losing effort. So if not the coach, who did the game plan?

On the other hand, Middle Creeks Coach quits after 4 trinine championships in 6 years and goes to Panther Creek and wins only one game this year. The new MC Coach goes undefeated in the Tri-Nine and wins 11 games overall. Did the old MC coach suddenly become bad? Did a Senior QB with 3000 yards passing, 34 Tds, 2 three year starting tailbacks and an experienced offensive line help the new MC Coach? I see the point Dnut is trying to make. But after the initial post I made being misconstrued as a serious post, I am going to give the JB coach the benefit of the doubt, the MC coach as well. He was named Tri-nine coach of the year.

To the comment any coach can win with talent I beg your pardon. Harnett central was state runner up and lost only 4 starters and a coach, and the next year with as good or better talent and new coach and barely make the playoffs to loose first round. The old coach went to a brand new school and went 3 deep in the playoffs with not 1 senior I think coaching has everything thing to do with it!

Great point Durhamnut. Here is my counter argument. Urban Meyer takes the same kids at Ohio State from last year. Great talent, but went 6-6 last year without Jim Tressell. Couldn't win a decent game with a coach who was on staff with Tressell. Urban Meyer takes the same talent and goes undefeated. It goes both ways.

Most head coaches don't even see the state championship game, let alone go to it their first year.

Pirate, you make my point for me. Look at a first year coach at any level that has a team loaded with talent that has superior technique. They usually do extremely well. However, year 2 and 3 are critical for evaluating a coach. Mr. Rimph may turn out to be a good one. But the next 2 seasons will determine that, not this year. Talent carried this year's team. Seen them in person vs S Durham and vs Garner. They seem to win despite coaching. That is a common opinion in the stands.

Auburn... A coach with a poor record comes to a team loaded and wins. Studs graduate and the rose glasses come off.

I don't know Mr. Rimph and I am giving an unbiased and honest critique of the situation. While this year certainly gives hope for the program on the surface, it is far from affirmation of coaching excellence. Time will tell the full story.

Even if Coach Bailey stayed anything less than a state championship berth with the talent returning would have been a failure in some eyes...some folks were predicting an unbeaten season with this team but it didn't work out that way but here they are where a lot of folks thought they would be...anything but congratulations to this Coach and his staff is out of place...and sour grapes...

Durhamnut I beg to differ. It takes the combination of talent and coaching to stay successful. You see it in high school ball, college ball, and the pros. A coach has to find the pulse of his team, establish himself as the clear leader, and get his players to buy into his system. Football coaches begin preparation for the upcoming season immediately with weightlifting sessions etc. within the rules. Bailey trained them up until June. Rimpf was hired. That means he only had a month before football camp started to implement his style of coaching throughout the whole program.

In my opinion that is a great coaching job. The job the Mr. Rimpf and his staff have done is why they are in the state championship game. Not only that, but a first win against Richmond. I disagree with you 300%, but that is okay. We all have our opinions. That is what the message board is for.

Britt being in the ship has nothing to do with this head coach. Britt simply has more talent and still has the residue of being coached. Let's see how Mr. Rimph does next year.

I just want to say that Butler made the State 'ship fair and square just as Britt did. To accuse a team of cheating is a smack in the face to all the hard work and sweat those kids put in.

WOW!!!!! My post about not winning the BIG ONE was a joke!!!!! Lighten up FRANCIS!! Any coach that takes their team to the championship is an outstanding coach especially in his first year. I was trying to poke fun at those that didn't like the hire. I can't believe anyone could read the post and think it was serious. IForgot the protocol of writing LOL. Oh well, live and learn, I'm new at this folks.

blueeyz57... as buckeye pointed out, those 5 schools are considered part of the metro and its not a stretch to classify any of those schools as such. I was being generous by not mentioning Northwestern. By all means, use the same radius around the Raleigh area. Guess how many triangle schools are playing this weekend? I'll help you out: one. Triad: one. Fayetteville: one.

The point is, there's a whole load of talent in Charlotte and the immediate metro area. The gate of talented players doesn't just open in Matthews.

I haven't said anything about Britt.. The posters for Britt are more respectful than most on here.. I'm just saying people always come out and accuse good teams of cheating its kinda funny because a lot of it comes out of people whose teams are sitting at home or watching from the stands

I'm a Jack Britt fan, and the majority of the board has already said that Butler is the favorite to win. We already had a thread on this topic. Not sure where you found that people are making excuses for Britt buckeye. I know I have said since the beginning of summer that the 4AA East didn't have a chance.

Those areas are considered the Charlotte metro area actually..... It's basically the same as the triangle

"But of course, I'm sure you're only making excuses for Jack Britt because you think they're going to dominate against Butler. "

Does anyone really think that Britt has a chance to dominate against Butler?...Any team from the East will have problems staying with them - let alone scoring on them...plus Butler remembers last year very clearly and what happened against Page doesn't sit well...

Towel Boy....4 Charlotte schools you say..... well lets see . Butler is in Matthews, Porter Ridge is in Indian Trail, East Linclon is in Gaston County, Concord is in Concord, and Charlotte Catholic is in Charlotte. If my addition is correct...I believe that comes to just 1 Charlotte school in the playoffs. Funny how Charlotte fans want to lay claim to outlying schools who make the playoffs so as to make Charlotte seem so great.

  • ambuncc Nov 26, 2012

It's impressive how much you think you know about Charlotte football.

While Butler is loaded, to say all the talent in Meck Co is just there is quite dumb. Have you heard of Mallard Creek? Charlotte Catholic? Independence? Even West Meck has a couple of D1 studs. Then there's also Porter Ridge, maybe you've heard of them. They're playing for the 4A state championship this week, yea their district is right across the county line from Butler. The only reason Porter Ridge exists is because of the flight of families over the past decade moving across the county line from Matthews (Butler) and Mint Hill (Independence/Rocky River). It must really kill you that essentially 5 Charlotte schools are playing for a state title this week.

But of course, I'm sure you're only making excuses for Jack Britt because you think they're going to dominate against Butler.

It may be on paper but definitely not enforced. Everybody knows how they roll in mecklenburg county. A ton of high schools and all talent at just one. Makes u wonder how all these kids still live in butlers lines after they were redrawn after 2010. They didnt lose a beat. Lol we got another indy on our hands. Can u say asterick!!

Even if they were to lose, how do you fault a guy who takes you to the state finals in his first season? That is clearly something to build on. Win or lose, JB has had an outstanding season.

Kmagnusson, excuse me, but that is a dumb statement. How many other teams are playing next weekend. In his first yer this young man takes his team to the state championship game and that is your comment.

I would think the JB fans are thrilled, especially since they got to the Garner game and lost last year.

I never thought a team would hold Garner to 8 pts.

Congratulations to Coach Rimpf and the JB team.

There is a lot of pressure on Coach Rimpf to win this game. If JB doesn't win their coach will be known as the guy who can get them to the championship but can't win the BIG ONE!

i know after Coach Rimpf was hired in the summer, there were a bunch of people that were not the happiest.

all you had to do was give him a chance. so i ask you this.......are you guys happy now? i'm sure there are a bunch of you guys that wanted him gone that are now praising him.

good luck in the state championship coach regardless of the outcome.....what a great first year as a head coach!
