I would look for Thurman Leach to be the next coach at Garner. I dont see Eddie Gray getting it and do not see AB going there either.
Clayton will come down to 2 current assistants. 2 current GNRC coaches. 2 current outside the conference coaches.

Good points - popular pick might not be the right pick. I think AB was also the HC at Middle Creek, then left after a couple years there.

As much as i loved AB when he was a player, he has not been a tremendous success at coaching at any of his high school stops. That and he never stayed long best i can remember. I think he did ok at Southern Durham but was there what, 2 years? Then a few years at SSS with no success. He spent a few years at App State as a running backs coach i think? He has not shown that he can stay with a program for more than a few years and i dont think he will stay at Clayton now that his son is gone. While he may be the romantic pick, i do not think he is the right pick.

AB won't be the HC at Garner. I feel like it is down to two canidates that are already on staff. If I was a betting man, I would say it will be Coach Leach(DC now). Which opens up an interesting prospective when it comes to AB though, could move Gray back to Defense and bring in AB.

I know every old school Garner person would like to see AB but I don't think he is the right fit right now. I think they need someone who has been in the program and relates to the kids.

AB might have his eyes on a slightly bigger prize 9 miles up 70 West...

What about the retired coach from Triton Joe McCullen? I have heard rumors.

Not sure if AB even wants the job. He may be content doing what he likes and that is run the offense.

I'm asking those that know at Clayton, Any consideration for Anthony Barbour? He has expierence as a Head Coach. Did not know if he was being considered.

In order to hire someone from inside the county the employee would have to put in a transfer request first. Did MM or the asst from WJ do that?

Nelson Smith had no experience as a head coach when he was hired in 2000. Worked out pretty good, I'd say. Doubt Morris gets any consideration at GT...

GT will promote from within. Look for that job to goto the Defensive coordinator.

Hope the new coach keeps the majority of the staff. Kids really seem to enjoy and respect the varsity assistants.

^Good point, Randy. I would prefer a proven head coach as well because you don't know what you're getting with an assistant. On the other hand, head coaches were assistants at one point & deserve an opportunity. It's a tough call, especially when loyalty to assistants comes into the picture.

A WJ asst's daughter is a cheerleader at Clayton.

I just hope it is a quality guy and would prefer someone with head coaching experience moving up the ladder from a lower division.

^I heard GT likes Coach Morris as well. A lot of stuff is going around at this point & it'll be interesting to see how this plays out.

Mark Morris to Clayton??? I doubt that will happen. I did hear that a West Johnson assistant is interested in the job.

How about the West Johnston coach?
