Outlook for Hunt football in 2013

Outlook for Hunt football in 2013

After a great season in 2012 how do you think Hunt will do next season. We lose 27 seniors 2 of those are QB's 1 great running back and a DE that is going to LSU. Im sure Hunt coaching will have a good squad ready for action.

RE: Outlook for Hunt football in 2013

no doubt they'll still have some good players (hunt always does) but the real question this offseason is whether their head coach will come back

RE: Outlook for Hunt football in 2013

Losing a bunch of seniors and a JV team that was average doesnt look too promising. Add in that Fike returns so many and their JV team won the conference, Rocky Mount was better than expected and return the majority of their talent, and Southern Nash, besides just being Southern Nash returns 9 on defense. Gonna be a task for Hunt next year. Gonna be a chore just to make the playoffs with Raper or anybody else.
My bet is Raper is gone. College has been paid for time to enjoy the rewards of a life of hard and steady work while he's still young enough to enjoy it. Depends on how bad he wants to add a state title to his resume in my mind. Word is thats what brought him back the last 3 years, gonna be at least 2 before we get back to the level Hunt has played the last 3 years.

RE: Outlook for Hunt football in 2013

We do have some talent returning however. The guys in our secondary, Dexter Wright, Malik Williams, Justin Jefferson, and Isaiha White I'm convinced could start for anybody in the state. Kentrell Brown and Darien Ballard return at reciever and are talented. Dont know what we're gonna do about an offensive line or a defensive front.

RE: Outlook for Hunt football in 2013

Im gonna say Raper steps aside. Hunt has a crucial decsion to make about a replacement. I hope a good choice is made. Im wondering if we have seen the last of the running back era at Hunt? We have some capable recievers returning. We may be mediocre at best next year. But a playoff spot is definatley in reach.

RE: Outlook for Hunt football in 2013

Hunt hasn't won a JV conference title in several years, including this bunch of seniors. There seems to be a quantum leap from JV to varsity for the Warriors. I didn't think they'd match their 2010 season but they've outdone it twice. It's hard to be that good every year for a long stretch but I wouldn't count Hunt out. If they didn't have to play NG every year in the East final, they might have won a state title by now.

RE: Outlook for Hunt football in 2013

2010 we missed our chance. We were better than NG that year.

RE: Outlook for Hunt football in 2013

You never know, some kids grow a lot over the summer and if there is a good off season workout program in place then Hunt may surprise some people next year. Winning is contagious.

RE: Outlook for Hunt football in 2013

After what Princeton did this year in the POs anything is possible

RE: Outlook for Hunt football in 2013

You have to have a solid jv program to have a quality varsity program.it sounds like hunt has that and that's why they are a quality program,it goes for all of them.this is a topic You don't hear about.

RE: Outlook for Hunt football in 2013

I think Hunt still wins 8 games in the regular season next year. It could be 9 or 7, but I'm thinking at least 8. Our conference (3-A Big East) retains all 6 members (Hunt, Fike, N.Nash, S.Nash, N.Central & Rocky Mt.) and usually there are about 3 teams that struggle, we just don't know which 3 sometimes. Hunt has won the conference each of the past 4 years, posting a 19-1 conference mark during that time.

Let's say Hunt goes 4-1, or even 3-2. They may even go 5-0 again if the conference struggles. Couple that with who they may play in non-conference games. I don't know who Hunt is playing next year for those games, but in recent years they have played teams that traditionally have sub-.500 marks (Eastern Wayne, CB Aycock, Beddingfield, Fike). SW Edgecombe is pretty tough but who knows? I still say Hunt would only better themselves if they were to play stronger non-conference games. It's easy to beat up on weaker teams, but I think that just sets a team up for disappointment down the road when they play better quality competition, especially in the playoffs. There are quality opponents in relatively close proximity to Hunt...Cleveland, Triton, South Johnston, Tarboro, etc. I'd even step it up and go play at least two 4-A schools. With only 6 teams in our conference it allows us to play 5 non-conf. games each year.

Also, maybe look into playing teams that play differing styles than that which you are used to. Most Big East teams utilize run-heavy offenses and play against other teams that are like-minded. Playing a team that passes a lot like South Johnston or Cardinal Gibbons would challenge your defense and probably make them better in the long run when you run into a playoff team that throws a lot. I cringe when Southern Nash has to play a team that throws well. They usually pick us apart pretty easily...lol

Depending on who Hunt plays in non-conf. games, I still say they go 8-2. And you never know what may happen in the playoffs.
