Britt's running game really didn't get going until the 4th quarter against Garner. I think Carter had over a 100 yards that game. Running was going to happen against Butler's D1 inside linebackers. I think Sean Wiggins had 16 tackles. They tried to stay away from Kalambayi. Our defensive line has a few juniors, but our offensive line was really young this year. I think Britt will run more of the spread option/single wing look with Carter and Foshee. Both had over 1,000 yards. As usual you never know what to expect with the passing game with a new QB. Need to replace our stud tight end. I'm in the dark just as much as everyone else.

I read somewhere on here that the D-line was young piratefball172. But either way time tells all. As far as a running game I did not see Britt running that much in the final 2 games except for the QB.

So I guess that means there will be no excuses if the wheels fall off at Britt next year then. Good to hear.

    RLee,

There is only 1 senior on their offensive line for the record. Both RB's are JR's. The other star wide receivers besides McDaniel are juniors. They will have to replace 4 in their front 7 on the defensive side of the ball, but return the whole secondary as well. The backup QB this year has limited time, but when McRae was injured in 2011 he led the team in a win over Broughton. Britt will be just fine.

@Durhamnut- Your name is fitting... if you think that the current staff has run the same scheme as the previous staff, you either have a serious lack of football knowledge or have never seen either team play. Morris is a very good coach who had some very good talent while he was here. As someone who has been around this community for awhile, that is the best talent that has ever come through the school. The talent level is down right now. Do I disagree with some things the current staff does? Yes. Did I disagree with things the previous staff did? Yes. But they are the coaches and anyone with two eyes can see that they are not working with the same level of talent that we've had here in the past few years. To be honest with you, this is the last I'll post about this as there is no purpose to continue discussing football matters with someone so obviously lacking in football acumen.

I was only stating facts about the Britt team from last year same QB, WRS,OL, among others that were Sr's this year. Lets see how well they do next year before you call it Rimpf"team. I only made these comments because as you already know a leesville fan made a comment about Garner that was out of line because Garner beat Leesville again in the playoffs. I see leesville being very good this year also.Lets see if WFR can give them a Run in the cap 8.

So you are saying in year one with a bunch of Morris coached players and scheme they did ok. Year 2 is when the wheels fell off. hmmm

  • BenjaminDisraeli Dec 4, 2012

Just for your information Durhamnut, I looked up the schedule...

    54-31 over Apex
    51-14 over Triton
    41-11 over Western Harnett
    35-7 over Overhills
    50-7 over East Wake
    Then Spears got hurt
They still won 2 more ballgames before Taylor got hurt. Even with Taylor hurt, they nearly upset SE Raleigh in the first round of the playoffs. I don't know how many teams in this area could afford to lose their two best players and still keep winning, but I know at a school the size of Harnett Central (where there are only about 1400 students) they can't afford it.

Rimpf was the offensive line coach that first year, and if you want to talk about selective memory, let's talk about that team. The first thing most fans seem to forget (and I've been a Trojan fan for a long time, before and after Marc Morris was here) is that they had an O-line that had 5 players that had never taken a varsity snap. They had a defensive line that lost the two best players from the year before. Even with that, they were scoring ridiculous amounts of points until the Spears kid got hurt. Then, when Spears came back, the Taylor kid got hurt. That is how I would explain the year they took over.

  • Durhamnut Dec 4, 2012
    Towel Boy

How does that explain the year they took over with an entire team of athletes that played in the state title game the year before? Rather selective memory pirate. Rimpf must not have had anything to do with the offense that year.

  • piratefball172 Dec 4, 2012

Here's a thought...maybe the talent level is down at Harnett Central right now. Every squad goes through a transition. You can coach players up all day long, but you can't beat a well coached, strong, squad with athletes.

  • Durhamnut Dec 3, 2012
    Towel Boy

So he was part of the staff that screwed up Harnett Central?????

  • BenjaminDisraeli Dec 2, 2012

@rlee- Rimpf did come from HC, but not under Morris. He was hired the summer after Morris and his staff left the school. I know there are a lot of people that want to give Morris a lot of credit for a lot of things, but Turner hired Rimpf for his first coaching job.

I watched this game &, as a GT fan, have to say that Britt probably did us a favor. Thanks, Britt! Glad it was you & not us. lol

On a serious note, Britt had an outstanding season, nothing to be ashamed of. As for Butler, no team in the state was gonna beat them this year.

rlee1117 - Britt had a good year this year...did Bailey recruit this squad? - If not then it was not 'his' team and wasn't since he abruptly left...Bailey picked up a pretty good gig at Scotland and some pretty good talent - is that 'his' team...Rimpf played at Leesville on a bad team and excelled - he should be commended for the coaching effort he and his staff gave this year...ask the Britt players whose team it was this year...

  • LRpride Dec 2, 2012

All of that is true, but Coach Morris wasn't there this season. I understand what you are saying, but your last post seemed to discredit him a lot. It is common to see state powerhouses lose a coach and another coach steps in and does extremely well. Players are players, but Rimpf still had to make the adjustments and do the gameplans. Jack Britt wasn't stacked with athletes on defense like Butler was, yet they still managed to hold Garner to 8 points which is more or less coaching.

  • rlee1117 Dec 2, 2012

Too give him all the credit was a bit too much saying what Coach Bailey left behind for him was more or less his team and he did come from HC under coach Morris that seems to be left out here just saying.

  • LRpride Dec 2, 2012

@rlee1117: While I didn't post that, Rimpf took a team to the state championship his first year as a head coach and put up I believe the most points this season against a top 10 team in the nation. So hes not a great coach because he lost?

Can the person that posted the comments about Britt having this great Leesviile Rd coach please step forward now and explain what happened? Sometimes bragging is not a good thing to do before the job is finished just saying.

I'm puling for Britt but Butler is going to be extremely tough. Hopefully Britt can get an early lead and make Butler press and make turnovers. Butler has 5 division 1 players going to Stanford, Tennessee, Georgia, Michigan and Ball State. That is impressive, but the game isn't played on paper as we all know.

I think wpowers was trying to say that Butler's going to win. Britt needs to use their size and try to slow the game down. If not wpowers prediction will be correct. Good luck Britt I'll be sitting on your side.

What I'm about to say, I've said once before...in 2010 the week before Butler played WF-Rolesville. I know Britt is a good team. You have to be to reach the state title game. The Britt fans should be excited for their team to be playing in that game. But, the last two weeks Britt was very fortunate. They were able to pull out the last minute win against Richmond. The next week, they pull out another one in the fourth quarter against Garner. But, I will say. If Garner doesn't run a couple of bad routes and/or make bad throws, they play Saturday instead of Britt. That's the way the game goes. One can't "if" the game. Britt made the plays and won those two games.

With that being said, I'm sure there are many fans of Britt and perhaps of other schools, especially in the East, who are hoping for the East champion to win. But, what I'm seeing is making a comparison and predictions based on what Britt did against Richmond and Garner. Those were two good teams Britt beat. But, I will go out there and say this...Butler is a different animal than Richmond and Garner. East Forsyth came into their game with Butler at 13-0, with some saying they were the best team in the state. They were big, strong and good. They came to Charlotte and played Butler tough before losing 25-15. On the other hand, Butler was two missed extra points, a two point conversion and a TD called back due to penalty from it being 35-15. And that was with EF being a very good, big and strong team playing Butler well.

I've read posters indicating if Britt can play well in all the game instead of just offense or defense, they can beat Butler. They can beat Butler. The game is being played by 16 and 17 year old human beings with emotions. But the likelihood of Britt being able to beat Butler is not very high. Butler is a different kind of animal with D1 talent on both sides of the ball...not just one or two D1 players here and there, like most teams.

    If Britt plays clo

Too many strong candidates with "family ties" to Garner. Would have to be a slam dunk for an outsider to get serious consideration. The core of that staff has been together for 25+ years, which is a big factor in their consistent success.
